New Benelli ready to Go - 12/01/11 04:31 PM
Picked up my new Super Vinci yesterday, can't wait to break it in at the start of the 2nd opener. Anyone heard or read that a new shotgun needs to have a some 'heavy' rounds like 3-1/2" BBs shot through it first to break it in? Does a new gun need any lubrication?

You should break it in with heavy loads, but a normal duck load will suffice-- anything at 1 1/8 or 1/14 at 1400 FPS or so...
I cleaned mine thoroughly when I got it to get rid of any packing grease.

I've never heard of having to break em in that way. That is one Bad A gun though... I'm jealous.

I bought a new SBEII right before the season. I shot a couple rounds of sporting clays before I put any heavier loads through it, and I did notice a little trouble ejecting the lighter shells. However, I haven't had any trouble with it since I've starting hunting and putting 3" loads through it. Congrats on an awesome gun!!

from everything i have read, you are supposed to use heavier shells to break it in, but duck loads should do the trick on that, and then like mentioned above, you need to clean excess packing grease and you should be good to go

My brother got one just before dove season. Didn't take it to the range, clean it, or shoot it at all. Took it out of the box Sep 1 and shot a limit without a single (gun) failure.
Still hasn't cleaned it and not a single jam.

Have the same gun, your going to love it.
Clean it, oil it, run several boxes of duck loads or high brass through it.

Drag it through the mud, it will be fine

I wouldnt waste shells just to break it in. If you want to shoot for fun do that but don't just waste shells. I broke mine in while hunting and it always just worked. So the break in process is overrated. What I didnt do that would be a good idea (although it didnt hurt me or lots of others) is to break it down and get all the packing grease off of it before you go on that hunt.

What I did w/ my inertia gun, clean all the oil off of it. Then rack it around 200 times letting the bolt slam home each time. This smooths out the rough edges and gets everything working together properly, then clean again and lube and you are ready to rock.
Did this, and will fire any dove load with no hiccups.
