My only advice is to not name where you are hunting

He pretty much nailed it. Theres a lot of Gadwall right now, so you'll probably be able to shoot some birds.

Whats funny about the lake naming:

They always ask about how good it is but never tell us how good it was.... whip

Yeah, my advice would be to make sure you hunt during the legal season...

I would say be carefull on that lake in the wind. Its no joke.Go north of the bridge on any one of the coves exept the one furthest Northwest, its a preserve(or used to be ...check it) and youll find birds. When hunting a new area sometimes pays to show up late, and then proceed to find the birds on water away from others spreads(bring binoculars). Then just make sure your away from the others and pull in and throw some kinda tarp(ollive drab is good) with some dead wood on top and if your not stikin out like sore thumb youll do okay. From there fine tune it.Ive killed hundreds of greenheads on Lewisville using that technique.Good luck.

Be careful out there there were some guys calling the game warden this weekend because the neighboring group was missing the birds they were shooting at.

Re: public land hunt Ray Roberts - 11/28/11 12:25 PM

I think you can still hunt Fat Nancy ducks out there. You might need to call the local GW around Ray Bob to confirm it.

I was right there with you man. Birds up and disappeared. To top it off we got to our spot at 3am and someone had built a blind the day before looked like and hung a light outside of it with no permit inside, which you are required to have. I don't stop till I'm shined off. We ended up shining 2-3 groups off then had the yahoos roll up bout 15 minutes before shooting time....on opening morning.

It was almost comical. They said "We hung that light up so people knew that was our spot".....and they asked what our plan B was. Needless to say I gave them a tounge lashing. Ended up at the point to where I had to threaten to ruin both our mornings if they stayed(last card played). They ended up leaving and we shot 1 wigeon drake. Booooo....

For all I know this could have been you. Anyway, been waiting to get that rant off my chest for a minute now. Gota love the public hunting!

Good for you ITG! I really think a lot of hunters do that because that just don't know better. So hopefully you taught them a little public duck hunter etiquette. No reserving your spot on public land so you can sleep in! First one to the spot get’s it, period! You want your spot, get there early!!
