Blind plans for hunting the coast

Blind plans for hunting the coast - 10/28/11 03:42 AM

I am wanting to build a blind for open water hunting down south on the coast. The flat that we usually hunt is about a foot deep and I would like for it to be able to hold up to 4 people. I have never built a blind before, usually just lay down on the shoreline and use natural cover. Could anyone with experience offer some advice?

Thanks

Where on the coast? There are some spots you can build and some places not.

When you get ready the best way to do it is to make sliding post driver out of heavy steel. Go drive your posts into the mud. 4 people blind is a 16 foot long blind.

Leave said posts for a week and then come back and build the blind. After a week it would take a bulldozer to pull those posts. Build it according to winds that time of year, as it is important.

Just hunt out of someone else's blind. They probably won't mind...

Great lakes style layout boats.

Look at lake Bonneville layout boats

A couple things to remember on coastal blinds one anyone can use them so plan on getting there early and two make sure you know the spot well I have seen plenty of blinds on the coast that only have water around them part of the time.

We always use avery fast grass to make temp blind. Coastal ducks get weary of blinds later in the year in our experience. Then you also dont have to worry bout anybody else hunting it.

Kayak and fast grass work the best. If you build a blind that is a red flag saying to everyone that there are birds there.

Build a nice 4 man blind and you may hunt it twice before competition.

But as for your question, 4x4 legs are fine and you can sink them with a power washer easily. And plank floors (2x6 or 2x4) last longer than plywood. 2x4 works for all other framing. Plywood or chicken wire for cover. Roof optional.
