Are game winner decoys kinda crap or total crap?

Are game winner decoys kinda crap or total crap? - 07/12/11 07:09 PM

Academy has had a heck of a sale on them lately and a dozen decoys for $7 was too good not to pass up. After opening them up, I was surprised (as I've heard how bad they are) at how not bad they were. They aren't top of the line by any means, but i've seen worse.

Survey says?

The teal decoys might work alright. But late season I would not put them in my spread.

For the price they have them on sale right now, without a doubt worth it.

I have 2 of the battery operated "wiggle butts" from them and have used them for 3 season with no issues. Look just like the more expensive ones.

The paint will come off them pretty easy, and they tend to run a little on the smallish side, but, I think $7 decoys is worth the money especially if you need to fill in your spread a little!

They will work for teal season. When your skillet shooting friends sink them, tell him their 80 bucks a dozen and then use the proceeds to buy some new G&H decoys for regular duck season. grin It's a win win situation. juggle

When I first started duck hunting 2003 I bought from academy 2 dozen cheap mallard decoys + a dozen cheap teal decoys, and I still hunt them today. I had a neighbor give me about 4 dozen Flambeau decoys he bought in the 80’s, and I have bought 3 dozen inflatable’s for walk-in. I never have bought nice decoys, I plan to this year, but I have been saying that for years now grin.

But really the early morning ducks don’t care, and that is when you do most your shoot'n. If you scout a place and find a hole holding a lot of ducks, especially late afternoon before the sun goes down, then set up the next morning in that spot and wind direction is right, you are going to be covered up in ducks first 30 minutes of legal and cheap deeks will be as good as any.

But if it is 10:00am, slow blue bird morning, no wind, trying to pull down late season high flying greenheads and pintails, some nice deeks can sure help. Maybe this year I will finally breakdown and get some.

thomas_z71, the Academy in Mckinney has several boxes of the dozen mallards priced at $9.97 on the wall just past the gun counter.

I have a dozen BWT Game Winners. They seemed to work alright to me. We get ducks flying in and sitting in the decoys on every hunt just about. They sit there for awhile too, like they are just swimming with their buddies.

No one waste your time going to Lubbock academy if you're from the area. Some a**hole bought them all this morning... wink
