CORN & PROTEIN - 11/02/20 12:59 PM

What kind of problems would I have by throwing corn & protein at the same time in my feeder? Has anyone tried it? I was thinking maybe mixing 2-3 bags of corn to 1 bag protein. Thanks

Behrend's Feed in Luckenbach has a premixed that I ran for years in my feeder. It never clogged. You just have to be careful with what pellet won't clog your spinner if there's moisture.

Shouldn't be a problem so long as you aren't using massive granules that may clog it.

Lot of factors can cause a problem...humidity, moisture from fog or rain, extreme temperature changes, size of the pellet, length of the pellet, amount of moisture in the pellet at manufacture, size opening in the funnel, gap from spinner plate to funnel opening and the amount you are feeding per feed period. I fed straight protein from spin feeders for 6 yrs on one ranch and learned what not to do and what to do. I made 3" agitators that extended from the center of the spinner plate up into the funnel that would agitate the feed in the funnel each time it fed. I would think with the knew spinner plates like the eliminator style plates it would be even better with less problems. You might check to see if you feed dealer can get corn and peanut mixture to run thru your spin feeders...a mix of 18% peanuts to 82% corn works well out of most spin feeders.

I wouldn't do it. Morning dew gets the feed wet, and rain, and fog. I've found that once it's on the ground and wet that the deer won't hardly eat it. Just buy a protein feeder and put it in the pen with your corn feeder.

In East Texas we get to much rain in my opinion. I faily pretty well sealled feeders for the most part but the humidity and tons of rain my corn will set up in mine from time to time..

Out west and South Texas I bet you could throw both mixed.
