Pig lost his watch

Pig lost his watch - 01/18/22 02:42 AM
With that Reveal SK camera, I now know when the deer, pigs, and coons show up. Got a few real nice bucks coming around that I don’t think I saw during the season, and I have one regular pig visitor. He shows up at about 6:20 or so. I decided to shoot him this evening, now that we have such a bright full moon. No luck. Every day at 6:20ish, but not today. Today was 7:20 when he showed. Maybe tomorrow.
I was so sure I’d get him today, I even asked the wife how much of the pig did she want for the freezer - ribs and hams, or just the back straps?
So much for plans…

I got 2 cell cams for the sole purpose of patterning pigs and being able to go out and get them. The ranch is about 2 hours from the house and I struck out every time I tried to get one at night last year.
Have had the cameras out for about 3 weeks and while I think it's going to help, it's not exact. I'll see them on camera for 6 nights straight, and then they'll take a night off, or show up hours later, or in greatly reduced numbers.
But it'll at least give me a better idea than what I had before. Before, I used to sit in the stand with no idea. Now, I'll sit there with some hope.
Only have one of the 2 cams out right now. Probably go out next weekend to put the second one out and hunt the first one.

He came in an hour late and you weren't still there?? LOL.

Not having night vision, when it got to about 6:30, It was pretty dark. If he had come out, I don’t know if I could have seen him clearly enough.
I was going to buy that smaller Sightmark IF scope, but didn’t. Maybe I’ll rethink that. Still, it’s a lot of money to kill one fat polka dotted pig.
No feeder lights? They aren't pricey.

Feeder lights…I forgot all about that option. Who makes the best ones, and I’ll order today.

603: I bought a set of two motion-detector solar powered lights and some of that green film that you put on headlights. Covered the lenses with that green film and mounted them on an 8ft landscape timber (buried about 18 inches or so). So now I have "feeder lights" at 2 feeders for a total cost of about $60. Just haven't had a chance to hunt them, but we did test and they work great (activated by us walking near the feeder).

I just ordered the Boar Light. I’ll mount it on a t post.
Thanks for the suggestion on a feeder light Double Naught. Don’t know why I never thought of it.

What is really strange is I had a couple coming in religiously also at around that time. 6:12! They were coming in for day at that time. I went yesterday in the cold wind stayed until around 6:30 and they came it @ 7:00 as well.
Coincidence? Maybe? Strange!

This pig of ‘mine’ is pushing it. I had company over last afternoon, and my iPad showed the polka dot pig at the feeder in full daylight. I couldn’t think of how I’d excuse myself from the gathering and go shoot the pig. But this afternoon….yessiree, this afternoon he’d better be real lucky of he’ll wind up in a cooler.
We are going to need pics of this disappearing pig you know.

Hokay!
The wife has decided that we want the ribs also. Surely this pig can’t avoid me forever.

This pig can do whatever it wants, and don't call us Shirley!
But seriously, we will indeed need to see photos of the dead pig.
Go get 'em!

Man, I knew I’d hear that “Shirley” thing, and you did not disappoint. I will take a picture of the dead hog, assuming that I outsmart him and he doesn’t outsmart me.
No pressure, but we are ALL waiting to see what you can do!

OoooooKay, now the pressure is on. My alligator mouth might have overloaded my chickadee a__. If I don’t get him this evening, I’ll have the feeder light for tomorrow, probably. I can close this deal sooner or later….Shirley I can…
By the way, my wife says this pig is a Sow. I think it’s a Boar. I never see Sows traveling alone. Bound to be a Boar.

No pig today. I left the blind at 6:35. Pig showed up at 6:43.
Sooner or later I’ll get that polka dotted devil.

This is starting to sound an awful lot like a certain racoon thread that was in the OT last year or so. I believe the racoon won
Good luck buddy, I'm glad you're back. I enjoy your posts

Re: Pig lost his watch - 01/22/22 04:40 PM
Well, I was pretty sure I was gonna get that pig, but so far have failed. I’d say that the score right now is about 3 to zero in favor of the pig. Still waiting for the pig light.
He might be smarter than me…

I’m convinced pig radar is a thing. Every day at the same time until you show up waiting for them.

Nah, if you keep after him, you'll win.
But as they say, he didn't get to be a big 'ol boar by being stupid…
Sounds like he knows when you arrive and when you leave so he is listening or watching or both. I suggest taking someone else with you to the stand and then have them walk back to the vehicle and leave while you bask in your brilliance and shoot that sumbatch' in the head.
