Fight Inflation Shoot a Hog

Fight Inflation Shoot a Hog - 11/15/21 03:10 AM

Took this 90lb sow with a hand load I produced from my lee loader. Round cost maybe .50 cents but at todays prices probably $ 2 bucks.
After destroying left front quarter from the pass thru I was left with 1 front shoulder, 2 straps and 2 hind quarters. I'm guess 25lbs of meat.
Took me maybe an hour to do the gutless method and haul off the carcass.

.08 cents a pound for some excellent pork

Yeah, the gutless method is the way to go but initially it seemed to take me forever, too.
I'm getting better. Practice makes perfect, eh?

Nice sized hog. Keep after 'em!

It is the way to go. Although a little part of me wants to gut and do sort of a side of pork type of thing. Not to mention the belly meat and fat that could be used for bacon or added to the grind for sausage.

You were right Dink, these are the best hams I've ever had hands down! On to making my own homemade canadian bacon.

Gosh dang Chad that looks great!
My phone must be broken confused2

I have this in a Word document. If y'all will bear with me I'll get it rewritten and posted either here or in the cooking section. Maybe the mods can make it a sticky.

Feral hogs don’t really have enough belly meat or fat for bacon. However, if doing the gutless method, after you cut off the straps you can kind of reach underneath the spine to get the tenderloins out. Just don’t poke anything else.
