After Dinner Sow

After Dinner Sow - 05/04/21 02:36 AM

After dinner this evening, I spotted some hogs on the feeder south of the house. When I mentioned it to the She-Wolf, she simply replied "My turn...".

A lasered 167 yards in dim light. Taking a rest against a porch column. Bang. Flop. This makes five hogs for her last four shots. She's a cheap date.

I've been watching her shoot from here to Zambia for better than thirty years. When I hear her gun go off, I reach for my knife...

You are correct, Sir...well done. Loaded with 110 grain Cutting Edge ESP Raptors. She's been shooting that same rifle since '91 and they make a lethal team!

Another nice pig down. Looks like the wife and the 270 is a consistently lethal combination.

I shot some of those ESP Raptors out of a 223 and they are the real deal. Pricey, but man they work good.

Amen and amen.

I've found that her combo (.270 / 110 CEB Raptor) really "punches above its weight". I've watched her hammer red stag, a couple of elk, hartebeest, lechwe, puku, reedbuck, impala, and a trailer load of hogs since going to the CEB. I can't recall anything needing a second shot...

My daughter was using the 40 Raptors in a 223 to shoot deer when she was 6/7/8 years old. They took care of business. I followed some of those wound tracks and they were impressive. You could see the star pattern where the petals broke off and each made their own small track spiraling away from the main track. And I agree, the light for class bullets are the way to go. Punching above its class is a good way to describe them.

Learned something new. Didn't know about them. Bookmarked now, in case I can ever starting hand loading.
