Do you use a caller for hogs and if so what do you recommend?

They work on Javelina. Never had any luck on hogs. Corn is what I use on hogs.

Probably the best sounds for hogs are Glenn Guess sounds on the Convergent Bluetooth app.

https://convergenthunting.com/apps-2/

You can buy one of their callers, or another Bluetooth speaker to play them on.

I have called up hogs with the sounds. But you need to be where they are, as in, where they live and hang out... You aren't going to call them from a mile away. But you may call them out of the brush.

Calling hogs from a mile would be pretty cool. That would be tough. You certainly can call them from out of the brush, but you can call them in from much farther as well. You can call them from a half mile away as well. I can't find Glenn's video that shows calling from a good bit farther.

That you can call them from long range does not seem to be the norm, however. Also, choose the wrong sounds and instead of calling hogs, you can literally drive them away.

Glenn does have the best calls. The Covergent bullet is pretty nifty and works at longer distance than most blue tooth speakers, but the only problem is that it is line of sight, meaning your phone with the app needs to be in line of sight of the speaker or you may lose connection. Convergent has a picatinny mount so that you can keep your phone out and on your rifle, so that your phone stays in line of sight with the Bullet. For example, you have the bullet set up at 70 yards and you get your call going and drop your phone in your pocket and PRESTO, no more call coming from the speaker. If you are hunting in the day time, having your phone out probably isn't a problem in regard to being lit up. If you are hunting at night, having your phone out certainly may be an issue because of back lighting.

Most bluetooth speakers won't get you beyond about 30 yards. I suspect that the Bullet has a range extender built in to it that other bluetooth speakers don't have, which is what makes it special.

Oh, and be sure to turn put your phone into airplane mode or otherwise it is a real shocking surprise to hear your phone ringing from the middle of the field when a call comes in...

I have used a Cass Creek electronic call with good success, they do not make it anymore.
As stated you need to be close to hogs for them to come in.
I've called in a boar using the fighting boar sounds, and called back out some hogs I spooked coming out of a draw. They saw me but could not smell me and ran back into draw. I used contented grunt calls to get them to come back out for a shot.
I have used my mouth to make grunting sounds also that lured hogs out of cover.
They are social animals, except for boars, so calling can work.

Well, I'll be!

I do believe that's the first time I've ever heard of anyone calling in anything with a Cass Creek caller! eeks333

Congrats!

I actually did this Saturday evening with my Foxpro. I downloaded the sounds a couple years ago and I have never really tried it. My brother in law and I shot a couple of pigs off the wheat field and had some daylight left. We went to one of my feeders and turned it on. We were sitting there shooting the bull and weren't really paying attention. All of the sudden about 5 pigs started running through the brush. At least one of them was plum pissed off. At one point we could hear her but couldn't see her. She was comping her teeth, growling and sorting. She was mad. She finally stepped out and we shot her. I was very surprised it happened that way, but it worked.

I have a Convergent caller, really like it, seem to be successful about 50% of the time I use it. Nastiest/mangiest coyote I’ve ever shot came in to the caller as well.

Me and a lease bud were sitting in my Pioneer just off the road at the end of a tree line, caller was out ahead of us. 5-10 minutes go by, I’m watching with my helmet mounted thermal... turn my head to talk to my bud, there’s a boar about 10ft from us, directly to our side, just looking at us. Then it was a contest to say something without saying something and for him to get his rifle up and shoot before our new friend departed, he was successful.

Was guiding a guy from CA one night, setup on a tree line in a large field, caller was out 25 yds or so in front of us. After about 10 min, I could see a sounder forming up on the other side of the field about 200 yds away with my mono. Shooter had my RFB and told him to get ready. That sounder came screaming across the field for that calller, I was afraid they were going to trample it until the shooter finally popped off a few rounds, told him to keep shooting. I think he dropped one, but he was one happy camper with a thermal shoot and probably more so, with popping off 12-15 rounds, which he had never done.
