DIY Large Hog Trap

Anyone do their own, whole-sounder, trapping? Curious about basic materials, setup, etc. for trapping up to 30-40 pigs at a time.

From my experience, the most important factor in catching a large sounder of hogs is to have the proper area for the trap. Flat level ground is one thing, but more important is locating an area that is on the travel path of the devils. Getting the area prepped and with enough attractant to get them used to it before you close the trapping device (trap panel on the "6" style or trapdoor) is highly recommended. I helped a neighbor build a basic (no electronics just a Tposts and cattle panels) one that was pretty effective...he caught 11 at one time (night after we put it up) and then several more smaller groups later. After a month or so the results really fell off. He disassembled it and stored it away for the next window of need.

Has anyone made any non electronic, man-triggered, designs? The pigs I’m after are far from the smartest I’ve encountered, real big sounder with little natural food so they get after the corn hard. Don’t think they’ll be that skittish about a new trap showing up, they don’t even bat an eye about a truck rolling up to the field and shining lights on them.
Curious if I could throw together a larger figure 6 trap but keep the “door” wedged open by a log and then manually close it via rope to make sure I get the highest percentage of them at one time.

All you really need is some panels, t-posts and a hog gate.

Tryna keep it to fencing and posts to cut down on cost and space taken up as I’m just helping a friend out whose place is roughly 2hrs away.
And being that I’ll only be “activating” the trap when I’m out there on a weekend trip so I can dispatch the pigs the same night.

Look up Dr Jerry Higginbotham at A&M. He designed some huge traps that don't even require a gate.

Thinking something like this, but instead use a log or ground stake to prop the door open. Then when I’m ready to use it, tie some rope to the log/stake and close it myself to make sure I get the highest percentage possible.
