Went out Wednesday PM to do a little late afternoon coyote hunting when this sow and another sub-dominant sow appeared out of tree line to my north. I was in a 10 foot raised shooting stand and had just settled in. Wind was all wrong and both picked up my scent. I thought, what the hell, why not. I put 1 round a little low into big sows head, and 2nd round failed to cycle. Cleared that and she was trying to run like a drunken sailor but making headway none the less. 3 d round was center punched and she stopped in the woods and left me with a pretty good thermal image. 4th round eviscerated her. Chased her 30 yards into woods where I finally got a round into her ear hole. Here are my lessons to be learned: 1. Never shoot a big hog with a dart sized caliber at greater than 100 yards (22.250 with 50 grain SST) 2. Never go into stand w/o binos to clearly ID game before dark 3. Never go chasing a 230 lb hog without a handgun unless you have a death wish 4. Turn the dam video recorder on the thermal or, at least, activate the RAV.
Had fun anyway.....
