Bought my own land loaded with hogs - 12/17/19 07:41 PM
Well I finally have my own property and it is loaded with hogs. And only an hour from home.
Had over 100 pictures of hogs last night. I'll be putting my traps out this weekend.

Those wooly boogers look like river hogs, up near the Red at all?
Be looking forward to some hogs in the trap pics!

Only about 2 miles from Bailey on the way towards Wolfe City. Not far from JG's place. I can hear people shooting at his range.
I sat out in a popup for a few hours but the hogs didn't show up until after midnight and I was long gone.

You are not far from me at all. I’m between Bailey and Gober. I get a handful of pigs here often enough to be annoying but I’ve never seen them in those numbers. Please keep them over in your part of the world!! Have you ever used a circle 6 trap? I have had good luck with it.

You're going to love the hog doggers in that area
No respect for property lines

That's seems to be pretty universal. Most certainly a problem where I am.

Congrats. Know that area well. You definitely found a good place. That area has plenty of hogs to keep you busy for a while.

I understand being happy about being a new Land Owner, but I don't understand being happy that it has hogs?
I imagine that will change shortly.
Congratulations on your land purchase.

WOW! Congrats on buying your own land. That is my goal as well. I'm in Plano as well. Looks like you might need a Thermal Scope for Christmas. My buddy and I do that near the red river its a blast!

I have both a thermal monoculture and scope and will be make good use of them along with traps. I’ll post pictures as I start the harvesting 😀

I dunno.
I've been 'thinning' mine out now for 30 years and repairing pastures for the same amount of time. Can't say that it's been all that Great.

Man, Congratulations! That's a dream come true for many of us. That's great you got to accomplish it. I'm in Colorado but would love to own a place that I could come down for hogs, deer, turkey, whatever. Texas definitely has it right when it comes to animal diversity! I can't wait to see all the pictures!

I see a lot of delicious backstrap in those pics. With proper processing of course. Congrats. I want to do the same thing. If you’re only an hour away from home, don’t worry, the urban sprawl will swallow your property in no time. Can’t stand to see how explosive the growth has been over the last 15 years or so.

Probably happy because they make excellent table fare, and Steve makes some EXCELLENT sausage.

Lots of hogs up there. I was dove hunting a corn field off 816 south of Bailey and heard them snorting down by a creek bottom. Perfect set up to sneak around a bend in the tree line. I came out about 20 yards from 2 young boars and a sow with about 10 piglets. I took out the 2 boars while the sow and piglets ran thought the creek bottom. The sow came back out of the brush in the creek bottom when she heard one of the boars squealing. She was not happy to see me standing above her about 15 yards away. I was time for her to get 3 loads of bird shot right between the eyes.
