2nd Trip down to Hunters Creek ranch this year~SUCCESS! - 01/24/18 02:03 PM
Well, I just returned from my 2nd trip to Hunters Creek Ranch this year. Our group of 9 hunters brought back 22 pigs from there, and unfortunately lost about 4 others.
We saw a bunch of pigs again this trip. I shot the BIG HOG CONTEST WINNER with a 196.5lb sow. (ill try to attach the video of the shot and other pics later). I ended the trip with 3 hogs down and lost 1 other one.
We also hunted some private land down around Sulpher Springs area. We took 5 pigs off there in 1 night of hunting. Had a blast. Saw a very large group of pigs and was able to take 5 of them before they split!
Got to use my Photon XT and really enjoyed it. Great purchase! I do find that while hunting with it, it is hard to judge distances of your target and size up the pigs before the shot. And while you are concentrating on your shot, you seem to lose track of where exactly the hog is standing at the time of the shot. And after the shot, you get that "white-out" and you dont get to see where the hog takes off to (yes, I know, IF I shot them in the face, they wouldnt run! lol)
But other than that, I love the Photon XT. The pigs had no idea I was there!
I'll work on getting pictures posted soon.. just wanted to share the experience again. As you know.. Bob and Doreen at Hunters Creek Ranch run a GREAT place. Garreth and Tony (the guides) also make sure that you are getting the best out of the hunt while you are there! And Doreen makes sure that you dont leave the place hungry. Be sure to try here Chicken spaghetti and her Sheppard's pie!! Delicious!
