Hog down 12/29/17

Hog down 12/29/17 - 12/31/17 03:29 PM

This evening just before I planned to head home after the two day deer hunt, I spotted a bigger than average hog nibbling corn at 60 yards, and he was spooked, hurried back in the brush, and he popped out close to 200 yards and started running away from me. I settled the 7 Mag on the window sill and I gave it a loud grunt and he stopped and turned to listen, and I ranged him at 240 yards and made a quick calibration but it was moving around quite a bit and started to nibble again, waited for it to turn a little, and when he turned at about 70 degrees, I settled the crosshairs behind its right ear and let the 160 grain Accubond fly at a sizzling 3,140 fps. That hog buckled and dropped where he stood. Perfect shot. The entry was where I aimed and exit was out of the left ear, you can see a bullet hole in the big ear on the exit and he was a bleeder. Sending him to the slaughterhouse in the morning for some pan and grilling sausage and some chorizo plus some ribs. He is as long as my tailgate.

If you shoot a 7 mm Rem mag and you’re shooting 160s at over 3100 fps, I’d respectfully recommend reviewing the source you got the load because I haven’t seen any published data with loads close to that velocity.

Maybe you are not in the fast club yet, there are many who use a 160 at over 3100 fps. Manuals are being published so conservative by manufacturers for liability reasons. Longer barrels have more velocity, did you miss asking that question? I know how to read pressure, I do ladder testing, I read my gun and I know how and what my rifles likes. up

Try Retumbo.
