This Big Hog Does the Helicopter Dance...

This Big Hog Does the Helicopter Dance... - 12/21/17 06:06 PM

So during a very lazy night of hunting, which involved binge TV watching and random glances outside, I noticed that there was a hog 20 feet away from the porch. Tip-Toed as quietly as I could outside to a picnic that is doubles for a shooting rest. The Boar Hog heard me and ran out to about 50 yards away. I took the first hog headshot, followed up by several shots as he ran off. I hit this hog so many times that he starting spinning around like a helicopter before barely making it back to the woods. Finally, had to track him down in thick brush, which is never a good situation to be in, but was able to put him down pretty quickly after that.

Merry Christmas to all of y'all...

Cool video! This is why I don't recommend 223 for pigs. 7 rounds into the pig, and he's still running a good ways. Nice pig!!

Good work by taking the helicopter hog out of the breeding pool! As mentioned several times before, by many different forum members, the .223 is on the very light end of the "preferred hog round" spectrum. Take that .223 and buy yourself 7.62 X 39 upper for it (or any of the larger calibers that are available to you on that platform) and the incidents of helicoptering will certainly diminish. Fewer of them will run off into the woods for you to have to go dig out (at some risk to you, as you point out)! Of course, shot placement trumps big bullets, but with a step up in caliber, you stack the deck in your favor in case your shot isn't perfectly placed, of making some bacon pancakes with much fewer shots!

Nice video! I agree with Chad and Mikei, consider a larger caliber.

I get a rush out of chasing after a wounded hog love the excitement lol. Actually shot a sow the other day and thought she was dead then when I was about 15 yards away she gets up and ran past me. I chased her through the woods and shot her two more times lol. Finally took her down for good. Nice hog.

Haha.. you're a wild man ST! It is a rush for sure. The hairs on my neck stand up straight when I start the trek. Before thermals it was a lot more dangerous..
