Shot a sow with a tag in her ear

Shot a sow last night on Ft Hood that had a tag in her ear. Called the GW and he took down my info and passed on the tag number and location I killed her to natural resources. They called this morning and thanked me for providing the info and said it’s a program being ran to track hog movement and to see if different hogs stay with their sounders they were released in or something g. She was pregnant and by herself. Spotted her 400 yards away and stalked to within 30 yards before dropping her. Thought it was pretty cool.

That is pretty cool. I would really be interested in what they learn about the hogs through the program.

So the fetuses had hair on them? If so, I wonder if she was close to birthing, which might account for her being off by herself.

Did they share any more information about what they have learned so far.....

No natural resources department just said they would provide the information to the college students doing the research. I may call back and try to get some more info.

Am I missing something, do we really need more hogs released? I know it is for research but dang. Years ago they were releasing hogs on WMAs for more hunting which just populated more hogs through out lots of Texas. We have enough than you.

I hope they were catching/trapping sounders tagging then releasing in the area.

Its college kids I'm assuming they are studying to become biologist or something and needed to participate in some sort of study but who knows. These were hogs trapped on Ft Hood and released back onto Ft Hood. They did it in groups. They put a radio collar on one hog and the rest get ear tags. I don't think they will actually learn much they don't already know.

I guess they learned they are getting shot. Did the tag have contact info? I have never heard of that before, thought maybe it was an escaped domestic.

Its a program only on Ft Hood the hunting guideline book they hand out says to not shoot the ones with collars but if you shoot one with an ear tag to just get the location, approx weight and sex and turn that info into the Natural Resources Department at ft Hood. I kept the tag

I guess you could prank the college kids by getting one of the collars and dropping it in the back of someones truck. even more fun if they are going to colorado or somewhere else.

not sure but they do have hogs on Ft Hood with gps collars but they don’t look like those

I guess you can have a tag collection. Did you ask them how many tags they have out so far. What part of Ft Hood did you get this one at. Good luck with the hunts.
