Lonely Boar Hog Blows Out And Returns 24 Hours Later...

I have a couple quick hunts for you. This first hunt is on a good-sized Boar Hog that’s gotten the upper hand on me more than once! I stalked up on this big hog and hid behind a pile of rocks to try and get a shot off, but before I could put a dot on his head I noticed his fat butt getting smaller in the distance as he ran away from me and headed back into the woods. Something spooked him and he blew out!

Now, I knew that I'd see this hog again but I was surprised to see him back at the same spot almost exactly 24 hours later. I put my reticle dot right on his ear and took a quick headshot to make sure that he didn't get away from me again. He went down quick and ended up being a decent sized hog.

The second hunt is on a good sized sounder that round in a little after midnight. Now, stalking up on sounders can be a little tricky at times, especially when you sneaking up to within 50 yards from them. I was able to drop one of these hogs with a quick headshot before the others ran off into the woods..

That's exactly right big Joe... You know, sometimes hog hunters are looked down on by other types of hunter because they think hunting hogs is too easy. Hogs are just as smart as dogs and can smell almost as good as them too..

I had a big boar blow out twice last week when he heard my arrow sliding through the Whicker Biscut.
I ended shooting his buddy who weighed 211 pounds. Everything was perfect except the sound of me drawing my bow and that alone was enough for the bigger boar to say screw this I'm out. The bigger boar had to weigh 240-260.

I've got a monster that's blown out on me twice that I just can't seem to outsmart. I've got him on camera and I'm not going to try and guess his weight but he's the biggest that I've seen around my property...

very cool vid!! but i think i read somewhere (i think sap said it) that you can't kill a hog with a 223. i assume you had to finish it off with some type of 30 caliber??

Hey DJones! I only use a .223 for hog hunting, I may be only one of the few left that don’t use a bigger caliber.. I hear ya, the .223 gets a bad rap..

i shot a wood pecker with a 223 once. hit him square on the beak and didn't even knock him off the phone pole. but i was using hand loads from DavidK. he may have put the boolits in bakwords

Good shooting HansETX. I shot a good sized boar here yesterday evening. They seem to have moved off the corn pipes and onto the acorns. Nothing new they are always moving around.
