Does anyone think the 7.62x39 works as good as the 6.8?

I don't know why the 7.62x39 wouldn't work. Use good ammo, make a good shot and I'm sure that round would be lethal.

Dalee7892 the 7.62x54 works great on a hog & its cheaper than the .223 55gr fmj & hp used to take down hogs on WMA... got my .223's before the prices went way up...

SST is my favorite ammo. I shoot it in 6.8 and 300 BO with devastating results.

7.62x39 works pretty good if you get good ammo.
I handloaded some 123gr SSTs for it and it did the job.

It was accurate enough but fell off at longer distances.
I have a 6.8 and use the 120gr SSTs in it and have taken hundreds of pigs with it.

I still have both and use them for different situations but 6.8 is my goto pig slayer.
