5 Big boars down through the fog.

5 Big boars down through the fog. - 12/15/14 02:50 AM

Went out this weekend it was unseasonably warm, overcast and a heavy fog moved into the low areas. Do not think any hogs would have been taken without thermal, even then the mtm monocular was struggling I would just catch dull ghost like images then confirm with the apollo.

Every hog taken this weekend were lone boars no sounders at all, and very few coyotes were spotted seems like most beast stayed bedded down. The hogs seem to be moving from tree to tree (oaks/pecans) they are not even stopping at the feeders right now. I found two boars rooting one destroyed a 50 yard x 30 yard section, when the acorns run out I have a bad feeling its going to look like a moonscape from the rooting.

Uploaded a video I found it interesting you can see how the thermal degrades with the thick warm fog. Then for the last hog a small cold front blew in and the fog cleared. I should have taken some video with the night vision the luna illuminator and targeting lasers looked like something out of star wars!

Rooted up pasture.

I tried a new DVR instead of my faithful MDVR because it was creating horizontal lines in the video. But this new one seems to lose resolution it just looks so much clearer in person.

Nice video

I think the lines are not mdvr
the cable reflecting signal and making standing waves
a 75 ohm resistor added should help
the mdvr might not have a load impedance of 75 ohms
so small smd 75 ohm resistor soldered across video cable might clear things up

I have the mdvr and a Lawmate EVO2, lines are in the mdvr but the Lawmate is clear using my Zeus.

Interestingly, the ATN Thor shows no lines when using the mdvr

Try a 50ohn resistor across the video output.

Did it make any change in the lines?

Texaslawman, nice set up. What guns are pictured there? I am in the market for a new AR10 set up for hog hunting.

Thanks, I have been pretty stuck on .308, but now you have me thinking.

.308 is great Im about to get one of those myself. I went with the 6.8 for less weight, less recoil, but 80% of the .308's knockdown. Here are the pros and cons between the two at least my opinion.

6.8
Pros- Lighter, less recoil for faster follow up shots, still retains 80% power of .308 out to 300 yards

Cons- Ammo is harder to find if you do not reload. (This is changing as more and more people realize the potential for this cartridge.)

.308
Pros- Ammo is everywhere even walmart. 20% more knockdown power.

Cons- Weight, recoil

There you have it LOL

Well, I went with a Six8. I am really excited about this rifle. Ready to get some 6.8 SPC experience. Nice to try a new round.
