TX Dept. of Health - 12/12/20 09:20 PM

Out of the blue, I get a call on my cell from a lady who identifies herself, indicates she is with the TX Department of Health, says my name and requests my DOB so she can relay some of my important health info to me. Now I know I twice tested positive for Rona recently and feel that is where she is going. Upon my resistance, she assures me this is to protect my personal health information.

I queried her with, you called me with no request from me to give me info about me and you want my personal identifying info? You gonna tell me something I do not know? She said probably not and I said okay then, y'all need some different procedures.

Should have gave her a wrong birthday just to see if she was legit.

Good move, sounds like a scam to me. Always somebody wanting to take advantage of us older folks.

I got the "Social Security" call yesterday. I told them the same thing...you called me. After a little back and forth and me saying this sounded like a scam, he said "F you Ashol#" and hung up. I gotta good laugh.

If my provider calls to change an appointment they confirm my birth date. HIPAA is a bit screwy in that they can't tell you anything about your medical history until they confirm it's you.

That's when you offer to call back. Don't ask for a call back number, call the number you know them from instead.

I think you handled it correctly Hudbone. My wife would have given them he!! for calling. Just last Wednesday I had to have a procedure that required me to be under anesthesia and due to Covid she had to wait in the car instead of the waiting room. I told her the number might look like a "spam risk" on her phone. Well my gastroenterologist called her to give her the report and she hung up on him as he has a heavy accent being he is from Nigeria. On the third call back he finally go out "Don't hang up I am the doctor", she was so embarrassed and started apologizing as she had told him off pretty well on the second call. When he came in to see me he was laughing so hard he had tears in his eyes as he told me the story.

My wife an I both received a call from The Dept of Health because we had tested positive for Covid but no personal info was asked for.
