PAM - 09/22/20 12:42 PM

Is Pam worse thar obesity? I tried to find it on with no success. Maybe that new search too that was discussed on THF will help.

Knock yourself out. Enjoy that Dimethyl Silicone all you want. it's a no go here.

Ingredients: Canola Oil*, Palm Oil*, Coconut Oil*, Lecithin from Soybeans (Non-Stick Agent), Dimethyl Silicone (For Anti-Foaming), Rosemary Extract (Preservative). CONTAINS: SOY.

Re: PAM - 09/22/20 02:31 PM

No. I use real butter or olive oil. "Rich Butter Taste" doesnt mean "Contains Rich Butter".

Food out of a spray can isn't good. Propellants are for rockets. Not food.

Real butter doesn’t contribute to obesity.

Real butter is redundant just like hot water heater or two twins..

Redundant for people with a brain. Unfortunately, some people confuse margarine with butter and don't know the difference.

btw, I should have included bacon grease and lard in my list of cooking fats. I have both sitting next the the stove.

Re: PAM - 09/22/20 07:56 PM

I'll use the olive oil one to grease a baking tin or casserole dish on occasion, just for convenience.

Love olive oil. Use it for browning my mushrooms.

It is not. “Real” is a descriptor. When fake butter began to exist, there was a need to differentiate between the two.

Re: PAM - 09/22/20 08:40 PM

If it's fake, it ain't butter.

I would agree, but many would not.

People just have to keep in mind that a serving size of that stuff (at least on the cans I have here) is considered 1/4 of a second spray.

Zero calories doesn't really mean zero calories, it just means that the caloric content of that 1/4 second spray is small, like 5 calories or less.

Its not "zero" calorie if you drench your pan with it before frying up some chocolate chip pancakes. food

Everything has +/- calories. Even the air you breath.

Took a minute for the doc to splain but respiration is a metabolic process. Metabolic processes require (burn) calories.

...it's a slow day, just thought I'd throw that out there to catfish grin

True, but products being labeled as "0" calorie for a ridiculously small serving size can be misleading and detrimental depending on your goals.

I'm not saying that lubing up a skillet of eggs with pam is going to be the difference in morbid obesity and fitness, but it's definitely something to keep in mind if you're staying conscious of calorie intake.

Personally, if I'm cutting calories (like after gaining weight during the holidays), I stick with my butter and oil, and just cut down on other things instead, usually sugary drinks, simple carbohydrates, and that sort of thing.

Re: PAM - 09/24/20 09:15 PM

I am a big fan of butter. Kerrygold is what I enjoy.

I smear it on everything, If I am heavy training I will even put a tablespoon in my coffee each morning.

Might as well spray hairsprayer on your food if your using PAM or some other type of aerosol product out of a can for cooking.

I'm already six years beyond my life expectancy and weigh the same as when I got out of college. And, yes you can look it up.

Pam has a refillable plastic pump spray bottle containing olive oil. You can refill it. That’s what we use.

Re: PAM - 09/25/20 12:54 PM

So some THFers are posting that doctors do not know what they are doing? Lipitor is the number one selling prescription in the world. Lipitor fights cholesterol.

"There is 0.0 mg amount of Cholesterol in 100 g, grams portion amount of Oil, PAM cooking spray, original"

They don’t all agree, so obviously some are wrong.

Re: PAM - 09/25/20 03:12 PM

Yeah, nothing artificial in that Pam. I would prefer the Pam in Mork and Mindy.

Lets say you are right. Are you telling us that a little spray on a non-stick pan is better than a scrambled egg in lard for a breakfast taco?

Re: PAM - 09/25/20 04:42 PM

No, I’m definitely not saying that.

In every conversation someone gets sold.

New studies show that calcification of the arteries has more todo with genetic particle size(the smaller the size worse it’s is) more then diet.

But I image the Lipitor rep doesn’t recommend a particle size test before prescribing, well unless he is selling the test too.

I still like butter especially on toast. I will walk off the difference to be able to eat the real thing. As for calories, there is not much difference per Tbs, the biggest thing is butter has 31 mg of cholesterol while the other have 0. Depending on how it is blended the saturated fat is probably lower, however the total fat is higher.

Calories Total Fat Saturated Fat Cholesterol Carbs
Palm Oil 120 14 7 0 0
Canola Oil 120 14 1.1 0 0
Coconut Oil 117 14 12 0 0
Butter 120 12 7 31 0

No big argument. I don't use a table spoon of Pam in a full year. Moderation is more likely with PAM. Its almost like we are discussing apples and oranges.

Another myth is that dietary cholesterol contributes to your own cholesterol levels.
