Energy drinks are the devil.

Energy drinks are the devil. - 06/12/19 12:29 AM

I used to be pretty heavy into fitness and eating healthy. I did enjoy drinking at the time and also some redbuds but was young enough and excercised/ate right so it didn’t seem to affect me.

Fast forward 4 years, new wife, kids, totally different lifestyle. Pretty much quit drinking except for special occasions but did backslide quite a bit in my health and fitness. One thing I did pick up was a energy drink habit. Would grab one every morning and sometimes in the evening.

It’s been two weeks now since I’ve cut out all energy drinks and can’t believe how much better I feel.

Never would a thought they would have that effect

Most of them are pretty loaded up with sugar.

I at least only drink the sugar free energy drinks. I’m working on phasing them out, as well.

I can't drink the things anymore. Seems like I hit 30 and caffeine/alcohol started treating me way different.

There are a lot of the younger generation that think they must have an energy drink to function. They also believe that energy drinks area substitute for a good night's sleep.
I have had three different guys (ages 18-21) that think they have to get jacked up on them every morning. They will drink a few of them and bring some along for the ride. As we drive around Texas they will be falling asleep at the wheel in no time.
Then I end up driving so that I do not die, and let them have nap, for 2-3 hours. I am taking comatose type naps where I can slam on the brakes and they just flop around, this can be fun.
It seems that energy drinks bring you down more than they bring you up.

Never drank one, but did take a sip of grandson's Red Bull once. Nasty stuff!

I don't like them for sure. And on top of that, cutting Aspartame was the best thing I ever did. I drank way too many Diet Cokes. Then I read some stories about neurological problems, seizures, etc. A nurse I met at Lake Fork said that a doctor she worked under at Childrens' Hospital drank Diet Coke from the time she got to work until she left. Then that doctor started showing Alzheimer's like symptoms and had to quit working. I never heard if her problems reversed after quitting.

Back when I was working and driving more than I should there'd be times I'd get sleepy overnight and look for a quick fix. Energy drinks didn't do much for me, slam a red bull and 30 min later I'd be battling the shut eye again. Chewing tobacco and Dr. Pepper worked a lot better.

I don't drink energy drinks, rarely even Dr. Pepper these days and I pace myself to 2 packs of tobacco a year - one when dove season opens and one when deer season opens. Chit is hard on your tummy.

Point being I don't recommend it as a lifestyle.

I used to drink them pretty often. Now its coffee, water, water, more water, and tea. I'll consume around 1.5 gal a day of water. Cant get enough.

I drank some when Redbull first came out with Yager in it. A crew I was working with and I fought a whole bar in Greenville MS that night. They don’t like oilfield trash from Odessa Tx, in Greenville, but they now have respect for them.

I like the white Monsters. Zero sugar. Red bull tastes like poo.

Bullblasters and a Marlboro menthol can also be used as a substitute for viagra. Or so I have been told...

I got into a long rut of either having a monster or a 64oz fountain dr. pepper every morning for breakfast on my way into work.

I'm back to drinking only water, unsweet tea, and beer and it is amazing how much better I'm sleeping - not to mention a lot less tired. Dropping 30 pounds probably helped too. All that sugary stuff is bad for you. I don't care if it's in cokes, energy drinks, or coffee - cut the sugar/high fructose corn syrup out of your diet and you'll be amazed how much better you feel in a week.

The only one I will occasionally buy is "5 hour energy". A little shot, no volume really, not carbonated. Lots of B vitamin in it. But that is only on that first day off from ththe FD, where we were running a solid 24 hours with little to no rest, or the days of driving almost clear across Texas. Haven't had one in this year. Best thing for me is an attempt at 8 hours of sleep, coffee, water, water, water the rest of the day. (Beer after 5 or 6).

I drink a Monster every morning and have done that for 10+ years straight. Less than 10 days in the last 10 years I've not had one.
I should quit that.
