Bad Habits

Bad Habits - 05/03/19 10:31 PM

Sometimes you do them without knowing like me hammer

My knees have been bothering me for a while, I thought it was from all of the pounding from my earlier days.
Turns out a simple bad habit I have been doing for a long time is the culprit. Almost every time I sit down and watch TV I prop my feet up on the coffee table which is higher than the sofa I am sitting on, turns out that it was causing stress on my knee joint area and since I stopped doing it my knees feel a lot better.

I walk 2 miles every morning and probably another 2-3 during the day and thought that would be sufficient, I have come to the realization that I need to do other exercise's to strengthen my core muscles, tendons and ligaments also.

So do you have any aches that just maybe could be related to a bad habit you have and do not realize it?

It was around 1993 the first time an orthopedic surgeon told me
I was destined for knee replacement surgery.
Osteoarthritis caused me pain with every step so I not only limped
but had a particularly stiff-legged gait. I knew it but it really hit home
when I started hearing "Gramps why do you walk like that"? That was it.
Despite the pain I had to learn how to make myself walk without the limp
and with a natural bending at the knees. Had to exercise and practice a
proper gait. Started eating better (and less) losing 10% of my weight.
I can now say my walking is at least 80% better, less pain, no meds and
as far as I'm concerned no future appointment with a bone saw.
I believe a lot of people put their health and well being into the hands of
the medical establishment in ill advised ways. Pills and procedures are
not the only ways to cure our ill's.

Not a bad habit but I had had a tilted pelvis that wasn't diagnosed until I had to have foot surgery and the Physical Therapist noticed it. That Therapist didn't get it aligned, but the next one did, because she taught me how to self align when it slipped out. Once that happened knee and back pain disappeared.Strengthening my core has gone a long ways in keeping everything aligned.

Only aches and pain I have is from arthritis. Anything else pails.
