I'm thinking about getting a knife and some wood just to mess with while sittin in my deer blind
what wood is best (easiest) to whittle'
what knife is best to whittle with?
If I like it, I may have a knife built just for whittlin, Ben's knives sure are pretty, he could probably make a "Whittlin Special" for me ??
I don't know the 1st thing about whittling, but my grandpa used to do it all the time when we'd go hunting...You figure out what kind of blade shape ya like and I can make ya one though!

My grandfather and I usually just used a piece of cedar and a Case folder for me and for him it was whichever one of his hundreds of pocketknives he happen to have in his pocket.

Wharncliff or similar sheepsfoot blade will be a whittling special. Get a fixed blade similar to a castration knife and that would be a great whittler.

Buzz,
don’t overthink it.
Pick any knife you like, grab any handy stick or cut a small limb, and get after it.
Look up “try stick challenge” for some fun.
Of course sharpening is its own rabbit hole.
Enjoy. 👍
