OTF Knives

I've always wanted an OTF knife and do not know a lot about them....was looking at the Benchmade mini-infidel, but it's pricey.

Any reviews on that knife or any other good OTF knives from personal experience? I don't really know anywhere that has a selection to handle.

I have several Microtech OTFs and I really like the design of an OTF. Of the ones I have, only one is a "double-sided" or dagger blade.
They are easy to open (and close), fit the hand well, and are just plain cool.
With mine, they are carried for defensive items almost exclusively. Given the cost of the knives, I would not use them for prying open a can of beans or for heavy cutting of materials. If you carry one much, they can become "gummed-up" with pocket lint and not open properly. After carrying a couple of days, I'll blow out the insides with compressed air and put a drop of oil or two and work the action in and out a bit.
I have no experience with the cheaper OTFs (Protech, etc) but I would imagine they are similar in terms of upkeep.

I have an Infidel that I picked up on sale. They normally run $350+ but I got mine for $249 so I couldn't resist. I haven't used it much and like mentioned above, given the cost I don't put mine to everyday use. I carry it occasionally. It has functioned flawlessly and I do like the way it retracts (spring loaded). Not sure where to go to handle one. Some of the stores that carry Benchmade have a display case and often I see them there. I bought mine at Kentucky Gun Company during an online Black Friday sale last year. If you think you would like one I can almost promise once you handle one you'll buy one. I would call Scheels and see if they have any in stock and go handle one there.

I have a number of auto knives, but only one OTF. I was always skeptical of OTFs because I was worried about accidental deployment. I bought a Microtech Exocet a few months ago, and it is now my go to knife -- highly recommend even though it's pricey.

Don't let the fact the safety for that was patented by Lorena Bobbitt bother you.

Cobratecs are solid knives but, I recommend picking them up from a gun show. They tend to be cheaper there. Also, Lone Wolf makes an alright, entry level OTF. Sub $100.

I concur with others on the high end OTFs with Microtech and Benchmade being the cream of the crop. A lot of time you can find them brand new in box at a discount being sold by collectors that want to move the pieces. Good luck

Microtech is popular for a reason. Heretic and Protech are good USA made brands though Protech is know more for out the side autos. Benchmade would probably be behind those.

Without question the best OTF is a GG Hawk Deadlock. They are not cheap though.
