Electric Knife Sharpening Tools

Electric Knife Sharpening Tools - 01/20/20 05:42 PM

I was looking for something and found a web site for "Sharpening Supplies".

It had numerous electric sharpeners which made me wonder if they are any good for sharpening kitchen knives? I hate sharpening kitchen knives, do not mind sharpening my hunting and fishing knives.

Prices range from $50 to $500.

Thoughts please.

I've been sharpening knives by hand most of my life. Various stones and a leather strop. Tried the electric and didn't care for it. There's something soothing about sharpening a knife the way our grandfathers and mothers did.

Got Chef's Choice for wife. It works. Since I finally convinced her to stop putting them in the dishwasher and how to un-roll the edge with a steel, she doesn't use it much.

Recently my Ken Onion died; I don't have a clue how many knives I finished with it over the last 10 years... Yes, I bought another one beside I have enough belts to last a life time.
Main reason I like it we're not doing a flat ground secondary bevel, it's a convex or apple seed edge, stronger, and will out last a flat bevel any day. I don't care who says otherwise!

I have used and owned some of the other workshops but the Ken Onion is the way to go. For a while I used them and did demos of them at work. GFor a lot of my field sharpening it is a Workshop Field Sharpener handy and has a broadhead wrench.

I’ve used most of them but now just use a stone or stones.

Watch knocking the tip off your knife with a work shop.

This is what I did when I was in a hurry to sharpen my EDC. I was in a hurry and let it chop off the tip. I still like it for getting a damaged edge back in shape. Like others howl said above, since I convinced my wife and kids to not put the knives in the sink (especially the dish washer) our kitchen ones are staying way sharper. I have a J. A. Henckels 10" Steel and can fix lots of edges with it.
