First try

First try - 08/25/19 03:55 AM

My wife bought me a knife kit online and i finally sit down and knocked it out.

Dammit so much sanding lol. Still have a little ways to go getting the handle to match on both sides and polish up the blade and brass a bit.

It did bite me though now I know why everyone tapes up their blade. I just had it in some shop towels in the vice with blade side up, was sanding with my belt sander and the belt bit into the tang and launched forward raking my thumb across the blade. Instantly started bleeding everywhere. Got that all bandaged up and got back to work but done for the night.

Critiques?

A little word of advise; Don't sharpen you're knife until you're 100% finished. I learned early on that I don't bleed as much if I don't sharpen the knife until the sheath is made and ready to sell..

Good job and welcome to this addiction. smile ani

Lol thanks for pointers guys. This kit came already razor sharp. I was really surprised when the blood starting going everywhere because i really didn’t feel it when it happened. But for future I’ll leave the sharpening for last lol.

Hearing protection? I ignored for years and now wear hearing aids.

Well done on the knife.

Good advice I ignored it while shooting for years and have tinnitus pretty bad. I need back ground noise to fall a sleep most nights.

I would knock the sharp corners off of the bolster. Round them out to make them more comfortable. Other than that it is a great looking knife.

That looks like the exact kit my wife was showing me to get for my boy and build with him. What do you think of the quality of the blade? Is it worth the blood sweat and tears?

Thanks, I’ve been thinking the same thing about the sharp edges.

The blade isn’t the best compared to some of my knives, but it’s and awesome little kit. Mine was from Man Crates my wife got me as a gift. With that said it is extremely sharp lol ask me how I know. Now whether or not it’ll hold the edge is yet to be seen.
