Three from this week - 06/13/19 12:12 PM

i got tired of making the same models over and over, so in between custom orders this week I put these three together. They go from one extreme to the other in size. Far right is 6 3/4 OAL middle one 8" the large one is 10" OAL with a 5" cutting edge on Thuya burl. All are 1075 my favorite high carbon steel, it's like 5160 on steroids.

Beautiful knives as always! I need to try some 1075. Where do you get yours from?

I buy 100 feet at a time from Aldo; New Jersey Steel Baron.. Heat treat it right and makes a heck of a knife. 1500 degrees for 10 minutes soak quench in Canola Oil only. I get the best results with canola over mineral oil, Parkes 50 or brine. Temper two times for two hours at 400 degrees, you'll get 60 HRC. Gas forge is only a hit and miss, really need controlled heat if you want to get the best out of it.

Thank you! I'm limited to a gas forge for the time being, but will be upgrading to a heat treat oven when I have a proper work space set up.
