Damascus and Texas History - 04/15/19 03:29 PM
Twice a year I make a knife with Texas historical materials. This is the knife from spring of 2019. The knife features my random pattern Damascus of 1084/15n20. The guard is wrought iron from the first railroad into Dallas, 1872. The dark spacers are blued mild steel from the gate of the cemetery at Rayner, TX, http://www.texasescapes.com/TexasGhostTowns/RaynerTexas/RaynerTx.htm a town that only existed 1889-1906. The silver spacer is a 1836 half dollar, as a nod to the year of Texas’ independence. The wood is live oak cut in 1858 by the Ellison family, built into a cabin that was in a documented Indian fight in 1864. https://tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/qfe01 The main details are laser engraved on the box. Overall length is approximately 11 inches. $1500
Here's a link to video segment from my Forged in Fire episode where I talk about the Texas historical series. The railroad rail from this knife is in the video, and also my buddy Mike makes hot sauce. http://www.frycustomknives.com/announcements/forged-in-fire-home-shop-tour
Thanks, Jim Cooper for the excellent photos. Good chance of publication with this one.
