Drop Point Hunter

Drop Point Hunter - 05/26/18 08:54 PM

Pictured is my second attempt to make a Loveless style drop point hunter. At the time I made this knife, I ran a machine shop that was equipped with a small heat treat oven. Additionally, the company made oil field gaskets from micarta, so I had access to micarta scrap.
The knife is full tang, oil hardened, D-2 tool steel, with linen micarta handle slabs.
The knife is over 40 years old and has been utilized to gut/skin well over 100 whitetails. The blade is beginning to show some minor pitting
although I can still sharpen it to a razors edge.
After this one, I made one other, gave it away and decided that I was NOT a knifesmith!

I really dig it, nice looking blade, neat history, and has a nice age to it.

Damn site would not let me correct post. Timed out. Another knife, same vintage.
.
Here's a picture of the knife with reground blade. Chipped it on a pelvis bone. 61 RC too hard.
