Has anyone hunted balcones canyonlands? If so, can you please provide some information? Do you have a decent chance to shoot a deer or pig? Can you recommend any tips?

Yes a bunch of times. It really depends on what unit you draw. Some have pretty good number and some deer are virtually nonexistent. Pigs are the same way.

My best success was to find a hillside and glass. Unit we were in was full of juniper with some live oak.

Has anyone ever hunted unit 1-4? Are there deer in that unit?

Can you post a photo of the hunt unit maps. I believe I have hunted 1-4.

I hunted 1-4 in 2020. My budding and I were in 4-E in the southern part. Flat area with lots of brush and a few open area and shooting lanes. We set up along these areas and glassed. Saw deer and hog sign everywhere but we only spotted two does and a hog.

The guy in 4-C reported similar results, while the group in 4-A called it quits after a day. The ingredients were there, but no animals.

Hope you have better success!

my son and I had D and E last year in mid-December, he shot a pig and an average hill country buck, i saw pretty good 8 but was 200+ yards, moving and I didn't have a good rest. I took my tripod to get above the scrub and he shot both of his animals sitting in the middle of that stuff.

Thank you very much. This is great info. I'll bring a tripod if you think it helps

I would definitely bring a tripod. We were in 1-9. We had opportunities but weren't practiced at 400+ yard shots so passed. In hindsight we should have tried to move in on them. Two bucks fighting for about 15 minutes.
