Mason Mountain ??'s - 09/16/21 10:28 PM

I looked at the write up on MM in preparation for the drawings as I like the Llano/Marble Falls area and almost talked the Better Half to move somewhere around there before we needed to move PDQ and wound up here in Palestine. So the ? is according to the MM write up "4 Wheel drive" is strongly recc'd and some roads in the Park are designated 4x4 only.

So....My ? is...A. Can you get to the park HQ without 4x4? & B. If I win a Guided Hunt will the guide be furnishing all the needed vehicular usage?

Still wishing we'd made it to at least to Marble Falls but family comes first and my DinL needed a place to rehab after a planned 14th cancer surgery sche'd for a couple months after we moved...but she didn't last that long and passed.

Mason Mountain is a wonderful place to hunt, and no, the terrain is not difficult. I hunted it 4 years ago and they allowed me to show up a day early and drive all over the property looking at exotic game. I used my Toyota Corolla on most of the roads. There is a bunch of rocky country where you would want the truck for clearance. The manager (Mark Mitchell) is a great fellow, and all of the technicians are very knowledgeable about the WMA. We cruised around in an open Jeep CJ-5 for 3 days, but never needed 4WD anywhere. Hope that helps.

Blank....That sounds like what I was hoping to hear...thanks.

The old 2010 Super Crew is holding up pretty well with a little over 106K on the clock with only a blown fuse in the fuel pump's digital controls so far that took the Cruise Control off line 1/2 way to Dallas with a Uhaul covered tandem in tow couple months ago. The BH's recently acquired new to us tricked out 2016 Armada 2x4 with 46K on it does ride taller than the F150, but seriously doubt she'd let me take it off road...much less put a fresh dead carcass or 2 in it LOLOL.

Hunted there last year and a few spots clearance was needed but never true 4wheel drive but did slip some on rocks. Blank must have been who they told us about as doing our same area in a Corolla 😂. Overall great scenery and good people at the WMA

Sounds Like I need to concentrate winning Some Kinda Hunt there. Won a hunt at S Llano River in the early 80's and been trying to get back there ever since. In 2016 we came close to moving down there in that end of the world around Lake Buchanan & chain of lakes down to Marble Falls , before we bought the house in Palestine. Even got close to a house outside of Belton that fit our needs but just could not make anything happen fast enough before the Need Profile went beserk with family responsibility's.

Drove a lot.of MM a few years back on a javi hunt after everyone else had left. They let me go anywhere I wanted to in my 2007 Durango. I scraped high center once. There was one area up on the south? Side I wouldn't go without a high clearance 4wd.
