Draw hunt Hagerman hogs - 01/06/21 11:47 PM

Any help please, won the draw hunt for hogs on National Refuge Hagerman in March. I've never hunted there, my wife and I took a drive around it month ago, looks awesome but massive ground to scout or cover. Also can take 3 other people, may ask if anyone on here might like to join me, Thx and all the best.

I hunted it a couple of times. There are hogs everywhere, but the majority of the ones killed came from the Big Mineral. Always enjoyed the hunt at the Hagerman.

What are your dates, and hunting archery or shotgun/muzzleloader? May be able to join Friday, hunted Hagerman several times.

Be sure to check out the ammo restrictions too. Back then all ammo had to be lead free. 5-6 years ago when we still lived on Texoma I joined the Hagarman Bluebird Preservation team. Awesome opportunity to see ALL of Texoma's critters and learn the property's opportunity's first hand.

Thx Ron, Ive checked all regs. I think. Scouted some last week, found what I think is a good place to put a blind, can only be put up 1 day in advance, this place is easy access long walk but do able for this old man. Not sure for hogs will see, got 3 days hopefully will see some Bluebirds and hogs. I was told they did an aerial shoot couple weeks ago, they piled them up.

I never made that hunt, but listened to the Park Staff talk when we were doing the bluebird thing about the when/where and issues for this hunt. You should shoot any and all porkers seen until you can't remove anymore to the road for pickup....no penalty for failure to pick them up though back then. Check out the Lead Free ammo thing bigtime as more people get dinged out of the Hunt for that failure than anything else. Remember this is a Federal Refuge Property.

Great food in Sherman at Hucks behind the whiskey distillery in the red brick building & see if the burger place 3-4 blocks west of the Albertson's front door in Sherman is still there. Killer burgers and a juke box full of really neat 50's bebop music and 50's era car stuff hanging off the walls . I'd move back to Texoma except I'm tied to the primo Med Service's at Olin Teague ( and supported by Baylor Scott & White docs 6 blocks away) in Temple...and already sold the 22' Deep V Striper boat. Had 5 major procedures at VA Dallas and they botched 2 of them with permanent damage. Good Luck, Ron

We'll be there the following week. Hunting primarily archery but will take the muzzleloader if I can find non lead bullets or sabots. I don plan to set up a blind but may take my saddle. Plan to scout Thursday and still hunt through the units depending on wind and crowd. I've heard only 60 hunters paid for the tag.

Several lead free muzzleloader bullets available at Midway. Just got some extras myself last week.

I was told that many were taken over on Mineral, for me a drew a skunk. I just didn't do a good job of planning. I was over on the other side in Godwin. I saw some but could not get a shot off quick enough. I heard others shooting. I will tell you I had a hell of a good time.
