Not too much going on on this draw. Now the next one coming up is a big one!

Re: 09/01/2020 Draws - 08/31/20 07:49 PM

I got a good amount this run... Only had 8 for the August 15th Draw... got 17 for this one. Big ones being all the private land deer draws but yeah September 15th draws is where most of the action is, no doubt.

Re: 09/01/2020 Draws - 08/31/20 09:10 PM

I have low expectations this 9/1 draw but still put in on these:

Private Lands - Either Sex, Runnels County Ranch 10 pnts

Private Lands - Antlerless/Spike, Blanco County Ranch 1 pnt

Chose not to put in on E-Postcard AD or Dove because they just didn't look interesting to us the way the hunts are assembled.

Ready for 9/15 to get here for sure.

Ready for tomorrow? Yes.

Ready to see if these draws also take 3 days to confirm results? No.

Hoping my oldest son draws either sex this year. He has never drawn and has 6 PP in this category. Surely that’s a high count for the youth hunts.

Well, they already did the National Refuge upland game. I won National Refuge Upland Game Trinity River NWR - Boars Den. Had the deer hunt last year their and was pretty disappointed, but man there was a huge population of squirrels there.

Congrats to him. That is an amazing hunt for a kid. Plenty of targets, and lots of javi's too.

Just a little Trinity River - Hirsch archery draw for me. 1 out of 17. Only had 1 point in the category.

I have been interested about these areas. Hope to get a good write up from you if you care to share.

The consensus from last year is that it's a good hog hunt. Plenty of hogs, but very little deer sign. With the new cubing of the points I decided to skip them so I didn't get my points reset when there are better hunts available.

I certainly will IF I decide to take the win and not let it go to a 2nd draw. I mostly applied for this particular draw just to give a donation and see if a low point person could win it wink I won two of the Trinity River rifle draws last year and went - like Thisisbeer said, it was a killer hog area but not so much for deer. I might still decide to go but am currently leaning towards letting someone else take it on second draw. If I win one of the Trinity River rifle draws, I'll definitely hit the place back up. I enjoyed hunting the area - but I'll likely use the win primarily as a hog hunt... one could EASILY take as many hogs as they wanted. Hogs were everywhere and seemed pretty fearless - little bastards just stood there eating watching me walk by more than once LOL

Re: 09/01/2020 Draws - 09/03/20 12:07 PM

I completely forgot about that. The hogs were absolutely fearless. I’m not sure anything short of a gun shot would spook them. I can’t remember how many I saw the few days I hunted there, but it had to be over 40 or so. This was at boars den. The other thing that caught my attention was the huge squirrel population. Last year I didn’t want to pay the $130 permit fee for a squirrel hunt, so I didn’t even put in for them. When I got out there and saw the huge number of squirrels I started thinking about it. Then I realized the permit was for month long access. So I’ll happily pay the $130 this year for my and my son to go collect some squirrels.

So far I drew archery at Laguna Atascosa and my son got GDE at Matagorda Island. Both should be an adventure!

I won a spot this year on Mcquire unit Archery only and was wondering if you had any luck or if it was worth the money? Seems like a lot of walking with no use of vehicles, bikes, etc. Thank you. I'm down to do the walking if its any good hunting.

You can find an update I did on McGuire after last year's hunt here: https://texashuntingforum.com/forum...river-mcguire-hunt-area-maps#Post7614163

I actually decided to do the Hirsch archery hunt I won this year - I'm thinking that some of the issue with Trinity River last year was the pressure the area was feeling once rifle season started from the surrounding areas. I'm interested to get out there before that pressure hits and see what it looks like. Worst case, I'll opt to put some hog in the freezer. Personally, I enjoyed hunting the area. If I was alone almost every day on McGuire during rifle season, then I'd be shocked if you didn't have the place to yourself during archery season.
