Bigfoot you need to start applying for other states. A lot of the application periods are over and pending draws. Texas is the last hunts I apply for. But having said that I look forward to the Texas draws the most!!

I wish I could. My few buddies that hunt are only interested in their leases. SO I really dont want to travel to new mexico or colorado solo nor can I afford the trip or time away form work

One of my most anticipated draws is Texas. Great variety of hunts, and a chance for a nice weather hunt in Dec or Jan.

I'll admit, I really look forward to the catalog coming out. It's kinda like Christmas when I was a kid. I would go through the toy catalogs and pick out a cool bicycle or pogo-stick for Santa to bring, and come Christmas morning it was mostly socks and underwear.

8 weeks until we can look and apply or 8 weeks until the application deadline? I thought the deadline for these was way later down the road?

You can apply as soon as the catalog comes out. They just don't do the drawings until after the deadlines.The only hunts you can't put in for are the e-postcard hunts because you need an APH to apply. Those don't go on sale until August.

I have an APH that expires in September. So the catalog changes every year? And is the 2019 one out yet?

Nevermind I figured it out, whats the golden ticket everyone dies to get?

Excited for this year. Last year was my first year to apply. I won archery exotic for Nilgai and a management buck hunt in the hill country. On the way to the archery exotic my great grandma passed and I had to cancel on both trips since they were back to back. Hopefully, my luck will be better this year.

The golden ticket hunt for me would be the Bighorn.

I hear a lot of guys say they have never won anything. I am curious as to how many hunts they are applying for? I can see if you only apply for 4 or 5 hunts not having much of a chance.

Last year was my 3rd year applying

I applied for 12 my first year and didnt win anything
I applied for 24 my second year and won 1
I applied for 32 last year and won 1

I know that means you have to apply for hunts that may not interest you but I believe the more you apply the better your chances are and even though the hunt may not interest you think of it as a learning experience for future hunts. I could care less about shooting does but I apply to all of teh doe hunts where I want to hunt bucks just so I might have the chance to go and learn something.

I won inks lake doe hunt my second year and it was a learning experience for sure. Saw 2 does my first night and dropped both of them. (My limit)

I won javalina at the chap last year and it was a learning experience even though I never saw an animal. I didnt want to shoot one of those nasty javalina anyways. I just wanted to go to the chap and get to know it and what to expect if I get picked for an either sex hunt. I went and learned a heck of a lot!!!

The odds are so low I think y’all should stop applying.

Drawing for the hunts are well more than 5 weeks away. Like about 3 months just on the first one.

This time of the year, I entertain myself by looking at all the harvest statistics for the hunts I am interested in. I like to go back several years to get a representative average. Many are super popular hunts, and people think there is a 150" buck behind every tree and that's simply not the case. With antler restrictions at many of them now, and changes in hunt dates, not everyone even gets a buck at some of them.

For older guys like me "Sometimes it is the thrill of the ride,applying, and the possibility of getting lucky, drawn. Think Gene Wilder in the movie "Lady in Red."

I agree I have spent at least an hour or so studying the 2 years I have printed off trying to make some sense of the better pics myself.

Sounds like a pretty common story line for my house! LOL

It’s almost time. I was curious as to what changes they will make this year.

I really hope that they are using a points multiplier this year. I've got a ton of points in several categories and would sure like to use them before I die.

too bad you have better odds of drawing a sheep or moose tag as a non-resident in a western state, than you do in drawing an average public land hunt in texas. hopefully there are some changes and limitations on the number of apps this year, but I doubt it.

Dang it, it still says 2018-2019 as of this morning.
