As [iWhite Falcon[/i] posted River plays biggest influance in hunting OSBWMA... A times it floods the 10-15ft banks pushing every thing off, thar b small little islands, if ya know were ta find em... Theirs several inlets that flood first making it tough ta get ta the outer parts... Been hunting it since it opened ta public, untill shoulders went ka-put for archery, most did the hog hunts Jan-March... Been waist deep going from high ground ta high ground, few times neck when hit pockets, sliding feet ta know whats under foot... when its up & gates open b prepared ta get little wet, Not for the faint-hearted, Me daughters be thar on hunts... CAN b some awesome hunting, Then I could play all night & get up with the MEN going with few hour sleep... Last few years in texas it was more ta keep in shape, pudding on many miles, day light ta sun-up, mostly videoing, due ta health issues, workmans comp twas a joke, so did me own theropy, keeping in shape... Been thar with out seeing an orange, Even with alien body parts, if was still in texas thats were b hunten, Had set up south of house down by creek, if wanted ta jut cull deer, could take 4 legally yet hit sabine, reason got on here, see if any one up for hogs hunts... can b fast acting.... Not for the whimpy....

edit : just my 2cents, That twas at one time one of the most sot after hunting leases in Smith county... Out of my price range.... & was a waiting list ta get on it... But then ya could use ATV's....

Re: Old Sabine Bottom - 02/11/19 05:47 PM

popcorn Not a lot of chatter bout OSBWMA confused2 Jan-March tis the General Hog Hunts... Even Flooding didn't keep me away... Do-it-yourself hog hunts... Finding hogs twas the easy part, getten em out for grillen & chillen twas were the work began... scratch granted tis not for d sissies, dem dar that b used ta execative hunts, even with d's alien body parts twould b thar, wondering about d woods...
Know thar b some on here, texasHF, that live in the area... Affordable hog hunts, even the middle class hunters can afford it...

I can remember hunts at OSB in early October when it was 95 degrees and the woods were drier than a popcorn fart! Ah the good old days.

This is awesome! Thanks for starting this thread and to all of the replies. I was thinking Davy Crockett National Forestor bust. Now I got a spot to hunt pigs year tound. This is only an hour from the house! Looks like no centerfire rifles though? Only shotgun/archery/muzzleloader/rimfire? Gotta get out there before the end of the month with the shotgun!

Re: Old Sabine Bottom - 05/18/19 04:16 PM

offtopic of Old Sabine Bottom... Ya we got big time rain & flooding here also, rofl tis now land of 11,000 lakes... Farmers not able get inta fields...
back of Old Sabine Bottom... It usualy floods out a time or two when the open flood gates, as mentioned b4, they had maps of lake & boundry if they damned it b4 it opened ta public went WMA...
think a couple years ago they opened year round archery hog hunts, thats the only thing going on now, if not mistaken... boat, or if twas thar, would take me Kayak or canoe & put on Hoard Rd & float, hit the high spots like did when it flooded during any means hog hunts... thars several high spots if know were ta look, always found hogs, wasnt able ta qualify for cross bow due ta shoulders messed up, here at 60 can use crossbow... tried talken em inta cross bow during archery at WMA could use one on privite propery in Smith County... bang Didnt qualify for disability, workmans comp was a joke got terminated when back went out at work... Were were the Rep then ? they dont give damn bout low-inome workers, lived on streets for few weeks, then headed back home, found part time work, it ruined my credit whin filled on workmans comp, they had lawyers on pay roll, my layer got new office & more clients... Sorry for rant... OSBWMA Awesome place for hunting, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, or just camping... & affordable...
up keep the updates coming, helps out 4 others interested in affordable hunts... As said b4 Its NOT an execative hunt... Best wishes ta all, Hope ya all enjoy it as much as i did... As pappy say's : " Keep your head held high & your powder dry..

More heavy rain yesterday! Still closed.

Re: Old Sabine Bottom - 05/19/19 04:09 PM

cheers Tis thinking its only archery hogs right now at OSBWMA, they started that couple years ago...
October starts the Squirrel-hogs rimfire-shotgun-muzzleloader, archery-deer&hog seasons...
Spent some awsome tim on sabine, running limb-line 4 cats, canoeing & kayaking from Hoard road ta 14, roughly a 20-24 mile trip when river tis up... Put in at South bridge, (old sabine channel) paddled to the North bridge, & eased down river ta 14, it's like one big lake...
We been getting lots of rain here also, ditches look like streams...
