Nannie Stringfellow Public Draw Hunt (Hogs)

Nannie Stringfellow Public Draw Hunt (Hogs) - 01/23/18 05:59 PM

Searched the forums best I could, was just curious from those that had hunted there before:

General Topography

Necessity of four wheel drive

Assuming I bring down a hog, are we allowed hand carts? (Hauling a hog solo through mud is my idea of fun.)

Any other general tips for the unit?

Thanks in advance!

Following.

I live about an hour and half from Stringfellow, but haven't been there yet.

For topography, I'm very certain it's all flat since it's only minutes from the coast.
Just looks to be densely packed with trees.

As for ATVs, the TPWD public hunting sheet says that ATVs are recommended, but I'm not sure why since it's not very big. Then again, I can handle long walks.

You can use hand carts. I hunt solo often as well.

Yeah that's what I was figuring as well as far as the terrain.

I'll bringing a cart for sure then.

Anyone here been down there for a hog hunt?

I've hunted Nannie Stringfellow a few times and love it there. Best advice is call the office and talk to them. It's been about 4-5 years since I last hunted there. many areas you could drive close enough to. I never needed a game cart because vehicles were close enough. ATV is good if it is real muddy. They had good enough blinds set up and usually pre-baited for youth hunts. Topography is typical texas coastal plains, some swampy areas, and flat. Great place for hunting, there is an excellent cleaning station. To get the real scoop call and talk to Mark or Ernest or one of the staff. They are great and always helpful.

Well, staff was great, and fellow hunters were gentlemen, but the hogs were not cooperating. Harvest was decent enough on day one, but days two and three saw only 5 hogs combined through the whole WMA. Next year!
