Ettiquette

I have never hunted the SHNF during deer season and the actual "busy" time.

Just curious as to how many trucks or cars parked on your logging road will make you go to another spot.

I only know 1 area well since this will be my second year hunting the forest so just curious on how crowded it can get on the weekdays and what the consensus is on number of vehicles that make you leave.

Letting a lot of people know the ettiquette is a good idea since I am assume there are hundreds of new hunters reading this board to try and pick up bits and pieces of info like I am.

Thanks

I think I am going to call the game warden and find out. I drove it this weekend to scope it out and saw a few cars were on the side of the road but not much else.

with this economy and leases going up up and up....expect to see more even in the week days. Also try to find the harder to get to areas as mentioned...SHNF is cut up in like 3 counties with lil sections.. I hunt part of it that encompass around 2k. Still with pressure and locals and poachers...deer come out if every year.

scratch just seen on news texas economy tis second in the nation. so shoould be more & more people ta aford ta lease. then again if use listen ta them thar credit advisers, tis a bad investment. Reason i went ta public land tis cause of de economy. like pappy always say's: econome credit & cost of hunten i can barly aford de $25.00 licence so i can legally choot a hog for grillen & chillen can't even aford de $48.00 permit. lots of good memmories of wondering about the woods, after a hard day in a stinken hot nasty foundry. Fresh Air. best wishes enjoy time spent. 99% of people on public land are their just like U, a getttaway flag

how close is too close? Has anyone had a spot where they could actually see another hunter hunting in proximity? I would think that at least 1000 yards apart is safe but I am not sure. Any opinions anyone?

If you are willing to hike in a bit I'll bet you could put a lot more distance between you and another hunter than that. Even with a few trucks parked on the road, there's usually a lot of land you can cover. Scout out a place that's a pain to get to, and you'll be safe (in my experience).

Public hunting is tough, some have designated parking areas & have no choose were to start from. Thar be a perimater, stand has to be so far away from parking area. & most who have hunted public, its easy hiking mile or two back in woods, work begins whin ya get something, its a drag getting out. if ya hunt close, expect movement back & forth from other hunters. its open ta public. Ta those that have the task of making it Friendly place ta enjoy, Tip my hat, Best Wishes ta all, have sat many a days in stand, & whin woke up from me nap, twas a better day than using that thar idiot stick at work, scratch come ta think of it i was the idiot. Public hunting isn't easy. on lease or HF every one knows every one, has a stand area ta hunt, ghagra seen big argumants about the deer to small an such, yet if its legal, they payed ta hunt, people would be suprised at the number of big deer that make it each year. still feel sorry for that young man getting bullied cause he got a nice deer on LF. Monitors finaly shut it down. Best Wishes ta all who wonder about the woods & if ya come across some one hunting, show respect, safe hunten flag Edit: rofl dang Android, suppose ta read have seen flag
