How long is the drawn process for drawn hunts?

How long is the drawn process for drawn hunts? - 08/25/14 04:10 PM

For Example, the Archery Deadline ended on Thursday. How long before they draw and post the results? Is it usually a good deal of time before they post it?

I got the notice I was drawn for alligator about a week after the deadline. Your mileage may vary.

According to the web site, draw will take place next business day after the deadline. So, the draw should have been done last Friday.
The web site also said winners will receive e-mail at the same time.
Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, if you haven't received a e-mail yet, odds are you did not win a hunt!!! cry
But you can check your status. It's supposed to let you know if you drew or not. According to mine, the hunt hasn't been drawn.
So, your guess is as good as mine!!!

With this new on-line system they have, you would think it would be a little bit quicker than that!!!

Of the 3 archery that I applied for, 2 of them says, Not selected..

but one says, Pending 2nd Draw... what does this mean? Why wouldn't all of them go to 2nd draw?

Re: How long is the drawn process for drawn hunts? - 08/25/14 06:54 PM

NVM, answered my own question...

What is the Secondary Drawing?

•If all hunt permits are not accepted after the initial draw, a Secondary Draw will be performed to select alternate hunters.
•The purpose of the Secondary Drawing is to fill as many hunt positions as possible to maximize hunter opportunity.

When will I find out if I am selected on a Secondary Drawing?

•If a Secondary Drawing is needed it will be conducted the day after the initial permit fee due date.
•Selection notices will be emailed immediately.
•Application status will also be updated from “Pending 2nd Draw” to “Won” or “Not Selected” after the drawing

but, my pending is Chaparral, so.... bummer bang hanged

Pending 2nd draw for me too.
But being I'm only 45 min from the area, I will be calling later to see if any stand-by positions will be available.

Any idea when they will make the 2nd round draws? I am a long ways away so I can't do that! ha

Depends on when the first rounder's permit fee is due. Those who don't send in the money, their spot goes back in the draw. In the past, when you got the notice in the mail, you had anywhere from 2 to 3 weeks before the deadline. Have no idea what it is now. Maybe Palehorse will chime in and let us know what his gator permit said on his deadline.

So why would the rest of them immediately go to not selected? Why wouldn't you go into the secondary drawing on all of them if not selected in the 1st? I guess I am confused on how this works.

Not sure why, but it could be since it's all electronic now, that the people that drew have already paid the permit fees as soon as they received the email.

ahh! See I am kind of wondering if in the initial draw they select a group to be entered into the secondary draw. Another words say 3000 apply, and 40 are drawn in 1st draw... they set aside 100 to be in secondary draw and do not draw out of the 3000 the 2nd time. that is why it says Pending secondary draw if you are selected in that group to be in secondary.. I have a hard time believing that everybody had already gotten their permits being it was posted this morning!

I was thinking along this line also. I have heard (not positive) that the 1st drawing has 10 days to pay, if all don't pay then the 2nd drawing.

I was selected for Nannie Stringfellow and Gene Howe archery hunts this year. Payment is due by 9/7/2014 so the second draw will a few days after that.

Nice! Congrats on the draw. Nannie Stringfellow is jus a few miles from my house. Some good folks run that place, it's a good hunt. Brace yourself for mosquitos from hell if it's warm and the stickiest, messiest mud on the planet if it's wet.

Congrats to those that were drawn!

IMO, hang on is the way to go wherever possible. The whole area there is heavily wooded, it's hard to see anything from the ground unless you are on one of the roads. The roads are the compartment borders, so it's kinda bad form to set up on them.
There is a good population of deer and a LOT of hogs so if you set up on a good trail or funnel, you'll get shot opportunities.
If you have or can borrow an ATV, bring it. They don't like to let trucks on a lot of the roads when it's soft because it tears the roads up. An ATV will give you access to more compartments.
One thing of interest, the rut down here starts in September and is well over by opening day. The deer will be in post rut big time by December.

That wouldn't be very fair though would it, what I am hearing is some areas are not doing a secondary drawing, I have yet to get a clear answer as to why and I could only speculate at this point.

Yep those are at least two of the areas not doing the second draw.

Re: How long is the drawn process for drawn hunts? - 08/28/14 01:03 PM

How would it not be fair?

but not doing a 2nd draw doesn't make sense, because that will just result in several open spots likely.

I can see how it wouldn't be fair, everybody who didn't draw the first go round should be eligible in the 2nd draw to fill those spots not just a select pre-determined few, everyone paid for their ticket to be put in.

Yes I agree doesn't make sense but thats whats happening, looks to be some WMA's making up different draw rules.
