New Thermal in 2023??

New Thermal in 2023?? - 12/30/22 04:45 PM

Short version......

It is hard for an ol' fart to be up to speed on all things thermal.

I like the features of the Thermion 2 LRF XP50 PRO Thermal Riflescope. However I am looking for a 3x base mag.

Is there a unit out there now or may be coming down the pike in the near future that has the following

640 resolution
3x base magnification
video/audio recording
wi-fi streaming app to I-pad/i-phone
laser range finder

Thanx in advance,

GWBV

RICO Mk1 640 50mm Thermal Weapon Sight. $5899 from either OLG or NVG's with free LRF. Don't see anything about a smart phone app though.
Maybe shot show next month will have something.

Here is what I would like, auto focus, 640 resolution, 3 power, absolute reliability, lazer rangefinder, Black hot/white hot. That's all I need, no recording capability needed.

Geedubya, you're describing a scope that should be here around the end of January or February. It's the new Pulsar Thermion 2 XG50 LRF. It has everything on your list including the 3x base mag. The price isn't set yet but we're expecting it to be around $6,000-ish.

I got my hands on a prototype of the unit in October for the evening but I'm not ready to offer a full review of the image quality yet from that short usage. The image looks very similar to the XP50 Pro but probably not quite as good. In the Pulsar line up their 12m sensors don't perform quite as well as the 17m but this unit should be a big improvement over the now discontinued 2+ year old Thermion XG50. Pulsar has wisely switched from the BAE sensor used in the original XG to a Lynred sensor that they've used forever.

If you have more questions feel free to give us a call. We aren't going to have a lot more solid info on pricing or ETA until the SHOT Show in 3 weeks.

At this point and time you will not find that optic without video recording. It just will not be built in today's market because removing video recording will only save about $25 in manufacturing and will cut the sales down by 90+%. The market has spoken and while there are some people who understandably don't need/want recording, it costs nothing to include and greatly increases sales. It would be like buying an iPhone with no ability to text; most people want it and it doesn't cost anything to add.

I'm not sure what your budget it but there are few scopes that fit that bill between $6,000-$9,500.
