Vortex razor binoculars - 12/21/21 05:58 AM

I currently have a set of diamondback 12x50 binos, and am looking to upgrade to the razor 12x50. My question is. Is there a significant difference between the two enough to justify the $700 difference?

Yes sir thr is, I keep a set of DB’s in the truck but I have a couple sets of the HD’s I use for hunting and it’s night and day difference especially in low light conditions. I use the 10X42’s so the 50’s should have a touch more low light abilities but for the little difference involved if I were you I would take a closer look at the 42’s simply for the size difference. For the money I’ve found them hard to beat,

Yes, I’d also look at the Maven B2 series.

Tract Toric over the Razor. Sharper and less $$$$.

I had a set of 10x42 for years and used the 12s and can't go back. So with that being said atleast a 12 power is a requirement for me!

I run 11x45 mavens. So I get 12x. I got no use for 10x or less via the way I hunt.

The Vortex Razor UHD are big improvement over the old Razors and a huge improvement over diamondbacks.

The 12 power give me a headache unless I use them with some type of mounting system.

You need tripod too grin

Actually I use a bod pod bipod the most. Basically shooting sticks that has a quick connect for rifle or gun

How much does the optical difference mean to you? How much does the $700 mean to you? We can't really answer whether it would justify the difference to me.

Personally I don't like 12x binos. I don't enjoy sitting behind binos on a tripod all day.

I run 8x32 Leupolds that are fantastic. Some good 10x Swaros would be high on my list if I upgraded.

How do you use binos and how good is your vision? Generally speaking, if I was gonna spend that kind of money, I'd lean towards Meopta if your budget is firm and Swaro if it isn't. But my spotter is a Vortex Razor and the clarity is crazy good so I'm not against Vortex if you can find a good deal on them.

Really clear 10X binos have done me well. Leica Geovid is what I've been carrying for five years, and just upgraded to the 3200.com for the longer reaching laser. I can hold them and do well. I can prop them on something and see anything I need to see. Lots of places I hunt afford lines of sight over a mile. I will be scanning, think I could hit an animal "over there". Then laser it and find out it is farther than I should be shooting at a game animal. Point being the glass is so good, and at 10X it let's me see anything I need inside my effective range.

I have no problem running 12x binos and keeping them steady. I have never used a set of binos on a tripod due to never needing to. My budget is 700-1000 and the only reason I'm stuck on vortex is their warranty, I have personally used it and had a replacement set of binos in 5 days. I've never held a set of meopta and I can't justify buying somrhing I can't hold.

Yup, most people that have owned Vortex have used their warranty service.

Can you send binos back to Vortex for a reasonably priced glass upgrade? Swaro will do it.
Never really had to use Swaro warranty but keep hearing folks talk about using Vortex frequently.
10x42 Swaros and the like are great for spotting game, out west too.
Spotting scope for the long range viewing .

I would say Maven over Vortex but I admit I have not looked through the better Vortex binos.

Re: Vortex razor binoculars - 12/29/21 04:12 AM

It dosent matter what brand I get, I'll break atleast one set. I'm one of those types that could break an anvil with an egg. So warranty is very important to me, I wish vortex did the trade in deal! I wish swarvos were in the budget but unfortunately they're not.

You'd have to try really hard to tear up a Meopta Meostar.

No, But if I did I’m sure I’d use their warranty. All metal bends

Re: Vortex razor binoculars - 01/01/22 08:38 PM

I like Vortex but I think of all the optics I’ve had, Vortex is the only one I’ve ever used the warranty for (others I’ve used are Leopold, Bushnell, Delta, SWFA, Kowa, etc). The only other mainstream non-Chinese high end optic maker that seems to have that many issues is Minox.

Meopta Meostar BX would be far superior to anything vortex makes. Even the Razor binos are made in China I believe. They do break often. If you’re hard on stuff, I’d definitely reconsider Vortex.

Yes, sent one of them back too. They took just as good of care of me as Vortex did.
