300 BO optics suggestions

300 BO optics suggestions - 12/14/21 03:24 AM

I'm really torn on what to put on my 300 BO. I'm not sure if I should go with a short-range red dot style, or if I should go with more magnification and a BDC reticle. I could also be talked into a thermal/nightvision scope. I'm uneducated when it comes to high-end optics. I just want something that I can plink around with and rely on when I have a hog or yote pop up. I have it suppressed and have both supersonic and sub-sonic rounds. Just want the best bang for my buck. Thoughts?

I would get a 1-4 if you don’t want to go with thermal.

SWFA has a ton of elevation adjustment if you want to attempt to stretch a blackout. Blackout is really best within 100 yards on game but you could lob those bullets at steel pretty far with the SWFA if you wanted.

I went all in and have 3 with a 4-12 Leupold, a 2-7 Leupold and a Pulsar thermal.

Depends on what you intend to use the rifle for. If night hunting, thermal would be the ticket. For daylight usage, a 3-9 variable will do what you need.

No to the BDC, or at least I would. They work sort of but universal solutions are much more precise, it just takes some leg wrok to gather the info.

I suggest listing a budget as it will probably get u the best suggestions that fit your need. that said, I'd get something more like 1-6 or 1-8 if my budget were hefty enough. One on my wish list is one fo the Trijicon 1-8 scopes.

As stated, what is your intended useage? Also, what is your barrel length? I have a suppressed pistol with 10" barrel, and I put a Leupold RDS on it. I love it. It co-witnesses with Pop up Irons. With Subs, I am just a few inches low at 50 yards with subs, and an inch high at 100 yards with 125 gr supers.

On my 18" barreled 300 BLK rifles, I have a 3-9 on one, and a 3-14 on the other. They work just fine out to 200 yards for pigs and deer. You do have to be aware of bullet drop past 100 yards. Similar to 30-30 trajectory.

edit: That Trijicon that Korean Redneck posted looks interesting.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect that I'll be doing too much long-range shooting, so maybe my comment about the BDC reticle is a mistake. But I'm curious about the 1-4.... lots of folks have recommended that. I've never owned a 1-4.... what's the pro's about it? cons? Why is the Trijicon $1200 vs the SWFA at $400?

Budget isn't really limited. I don't want to spend ten grand or anything crazy, but for the right deal, I'd spend several thousand on a thermal if I thought it would be worth it... I'm mainly thinking hog-hunting at 100-120 yards max.

That 1-4 will can act similar to a red dot on1x and 4x will be plenty for 100 yards. SWFA is a house brand of optics known for their reliability and value.

Trijicon is a 1-8 so it’s double the magnification range, Trijicon is top notch but for your use, the SWFA is an excellent scope.

If the primary usage will be for hunting hogs, I suggest thermal.
Here's a recent thread for some thoughts on that subject — https://texashuntingforum.com/forum.../iray-bravo-or-super-hogster#Post8462924

This looks very interesting and the price point is right…. Thanks for the suggestion - and I’d be interested in anyone else’s comments or reviews, too.
