Pulsar Thermion sucks!

Pulsar Thermion sucks! - 04/22/21 04:51 PM

I have a Pulsar Thermion XP 50 and a Thermion monocular. The optics work great but the link to Streamvision is horrible. It is advertised to have recording capability, but I’ve found it impossible to connect it and then download videos to my device, an IPad or I phone. It seems everyone is having this problem. You would think a product that costs 5 grand would work as advertised. Does anyone have a Thermion that will connect to an Apple product to download videos? Any suggestions or advise would be appreciated. Is there a workaround that will let me download videos from my scope to my device or computer?

Well, to be clear, it is the Streamvision that sucks. It always has. Some people have little or no issues. Some people have terrible issues. I realize it is part of the Pulsar package, but that is where the problem is.

The word thing is on one of my iPads it works fine...the other it will not stay connected to do anything.

You might try plugging directly into something via the side port. Good luck, frustrating...no doubt.

Son in law had the same problem with connecting to his iphone with his XQ50 Trail. For a year and a half he just downloaded to his laptop. Then one day he went in the menu and changed the user from owner to guest and it connected to his phone. Go figure. But stream vision has a mind of it's own. Mine stopped converting files for a couple of months and then out of the blue started converting again. Good luck.

At the end of the day, atleast you didn't shoot a cow or calf.

I finally got my videos downloaded to a desktop (non-Apple) using the side port and a cable. But it was rather tedious and certainly not as advertised by Pulsar. I still have not been able to connect it using WiFi as Pulsar instructs and advertises. So my review of any Pulsar product is a 5 for its ability as a thermal and a zero for its video recording/sharing capability. I hope Pulsar fixes this issue. I have sent customer service several emails asking for help, but have not gotten any response. For a product that costs so much, I would expect it to work as advertised, and to get better customer support. Looking on the Internet forums, I see that this is a universal issue.

As far as not shooting a cow, my only mistake so far was shooting a possum at my feeder as my first kill, thinking it was a raccoon.

ALL thermals have issues with videos, streaming , image settings , and use

You could spend a lot more and have the same frustrations or spend a lot less and not have the features

Advertisement isn’t reality - ever watch TV commercials or view the screens at food joints .

All that to say this - I’d sale the scope and try a different make and model - you might be slightly happier but there is NOT a scope that performs absolutely as advertised in the less than 15k range...

I never use the Streamvision app, as I've had the same problem. I just plug the thermion directly into my macbook and it's very easy to transfer the videos to my computer. Just plug the scope into any computer

I asked my Pulsar rep about this and he replied "Wish I could talk to them personally. Pretty easy thing to do and first time I’ve heard someone complain about the App." So if you'd like please give me a call, 516-217-1000, and I'll get you connected with him.

He is either a liar, completely out of touch, or first day on the job because the app has had issues since it was introduced.

I can vouch for Doug at camera land he’s a standup guy and very knowledgeable about optics.

The offer to help is nice, but it doesn't sound like your rep knows what is going on.

When you look at the App download page from Google, the ratings are binary with the second most common rating being 1 star (worst). Connection issues abound.

I’d love to see what your rep can do to fix this. Of the 5 Trail 2’s I’ve been around, including mine, none have been able to easily or continuously connect Streamvision to a device

Re: Pulsar Thermion sucks! - 05/27/21 10:26 PM

Interesting. Actually I like my Pulsar, even though Streamvision just doesn’t work for me on my Apple devices. None of my tech friends can get it to work either. So I will definitely call the rep who volunteered. But I agree that I’m not alone in my criticism. I’ll post what I discover. In the meantime, I’ll either not record or hardwire it.

It’s not just Apple you ignorant toddler. It’s the Streamvision ap and the scope that can’t get right.

I love CameraLand and Doug is great. That said, chalk another tally on the board for a horrible Streamvision experience on my Trail. I gave up when it never worked.
