Pulsar Thermion XG50

Pulsar Thermion XG50 - 02/01/21 08:12 PM

I have had my Thermion XG50 for about 10 days now. It seems to be a pretty good unit for the most part. But I am having a lot of problems with adjusting the objective focus. It is so stiff that there is no way you can adjust it while looking through it!! This is really pissing me off to the point that this issue is over shadowing the positive aspects of this unit!! ____At this price point it should turn with enough ease to allow viewing while focusing! ____And why not a side focus..., or even a top focus like the trail???___I have an email into Pulsar Support about the excessively stiff objective adjustment. I will post a follow up once I receive a reply.

Yeah thanks..., but I don't think I'll be lubing up my $7k optic without a directive to do so from the manufacturer!

Had the same deal with my XQ50...

If you send it in for service you may have a long wait , hopefully not but pulsar scopes are scarce at the moment

If your dealer is in town you might ask if they have a unit on hand that has a free(er) turning objective focus and maybe they can swap you out without an RMA

Good luck

... and never underestimate the power of applying lube in these situations

I bought it online out of Missouri.
They are very clear on their website that with all sales, any problems need to be handled through the Manufacturer.

Do all models in the Thermion line have this problem? If so, I sure never heard or read about, and I researched it pretty thoroughly before pulling the trigger! If this is a known
design flaw.., you would think at the very least they would supply a throw lever with it? As stiff as mine is.., I doubt a lever would even help much!

It didn’t stick around long enough to mess with it.

Is that the reason you got rid of it.., or were there other issues??

No major operational issues to speak of. I didn’t care for the form factor and button lay out mainly...

I like being able to use my thermal as a scanner too if I’m not using NODs and the Thermion just didn’t work well for that.

I'm kinda rethinking things a bit. Next time out I might change things up and do my scanning with Thermal and shooting with a NV scope?

Focus is a little stiff on my Thermion XQ50 but it’s plenty easy to focus while looking through it. I turn it up to 12x to adjust focus then back down to 3/6x. Really pleased with it after 4 months. I will buy a handheld scanner too. One device cannot do both in my experience.

I've done that. It's a very workable approach, although I eventually I went completely thermal.

Check this out. Mine is stiff but I dont have to adjust mine much on my XP50. I could imagine on the XG you will need to adjust it more since you have the increased range of the base magnification and your digital zoom doesnt distort as much as mine.

Of course, the OP will want to wait for a directive from the manufacturer before trying that.

Cool link. They have some nifty stuff.

My Thermion XQ50 also has a very stiff front objective too, but I consider this a plus. I simply get a good focus at 100yds and leave it alone for the most part. I actually have the opposite complaint about the rear focus, it turns so easy that my reticle is constantly getting out of focus, so I finally just did a good focus and then secured it with tight electrical tape so it wouldn't turn. Overall I like the scope a LOT better than the FLIR PVS536 I previously had. I've also got a Trail XQ50 and it's also a good scope for my application.

That is what I used to do with my Zeus. That took care of 80% of my hunting situations.
