Weaver 6x fixed power K series scope

I have had a couple of low cost variable scopes I didn't like very much. I have a 4x fixed on a squirrel rifle and a 2 1/2 on a lever action for short range deer. In any event I got a good deal on a 30-06 that I want to use for 150-200 yard shots and thought maybe a 6x would work. I put on a vaiable but it didn't hold the zero and I also had it moving around on the rings- never experienced that before even on a 12 gauge slug gun.

So- if anyone has used a 6x fixed- how'd you like it?

I have a Meopta 6x on a 7-08. I think the 6x is fine for most big game hunting except really close shots.

High end fixed is often more clear than variable.

6X will get you to your 200 yards very well. Keep both eyes open to get your optic on target, then close your non-firing eye if you wish. I think what you're wanting will do a good job for you.

I would also add that you should invest in some quality rings. Sounds like there may be an issue with the old set.

I don't know anything about that model, but 100% yes to a 6x scope.

My 30-06 "deer rifle" hasn't been used in years. The plan is to restart hunting soon. I'm considering either a 1-6 variable or straight up 6x like u.

I’m a big fan of fixed power scopes on a hunting rifle. I have done away with my 6x in favor of the 4x but that’s just personal preference. I run them on short range guns so the 4x is ideal for me. I found the 6x too much up close. I don’t know much about the current weaver offerings, but the meopta is a great scope. My favorite is the FX-2 from Leupold. I think the Meopta is probably a better scope but I’ve been riding the FX-2 train for a long time. Good glass, it stays where I put it, and I like the reticle. Can usually be had in the $225-$250 range used, or $299 new.

Thanks- I've never had any issues with a 4X fixed but most shots are 100 yards. I thought 6X might be a little better on a longer shot. I never heard of the meopta.

I said the meopta is an excellent scope. Actually my only experience with them is the one they made for Cabelas. It far outshines many more expensive scopes I’ve owned. They also make/made scopes for one of the European companies that is revered as a great scope. Can’t remember the name off hand.

I picked up a Weaver K4-W, Micro-Trac today. I was wanting a fixed X for a lever gun that will spend a lot of time on the front rack of my ATV. Very clean, perfect glass, $60.00 at local pawn shop. It's not a 6x like you were after but considering how clear this is, and the field of view (K4-W), you might be happy with one of these if you can find it.

I actually have a 2 1/2x fixed on a Marlin 336 I use for the jungles if I'm in thick woods. Years ago I used open sights but if you don't mind shooting a spike, etc. I found that a scope helps you look at antlers. You really can't use binoculars and put them down and then take a shot- deer's gone. On some of my other rifles, plus a slug gun I have 4X and one variable. The variable seems to move around- I think you need to spend a lot more on a variable if you really want something worthwhile. In any event I cut out a cardboard deer silhouette and stuck it 350 yards away. A 4X actually would be okay but the 6X fixed I think helps you center the shot a little better and I didn't seem to have a field of view problem. It would be for an open area, type hunting.

I have several of the old ElPaso Weavers. Great classic scope. Problem is with most of them is they were not purged with Argon so they can and will fog up on you. If you have issues with one there is a guy in Oklahoma that repairs them ...However the repair cost is often enough to go buy 2 replacements and his wait time last I checked was at about 1yr.
The other issue is that most all the scopes produced now are of the tactical type, if you have an old classic rifle ...well it just aint right ..ya know.
Leupold does have their rifleman series that I really like. They have an old school feel to them and they won't break the bank...With Weaver gone for good now if you see some of the old ones buy em ..!

I use an FX-II 6x36 Leupold for my main rifle and I like it a lot. Unfortunately they stopped making that model recently, only the 6x42 is made now. I wish more manufacturers made fixed power models. I find it makes a lot of sense on a hunting rifle and follows the KISS principle.

I got this one dialed in pretty good. For 42 year old scope on my JM Stamped Marlin it's perfect. These are great older scopes. I'd take up Michael W. on the offer above.
