Scope for new 6.8 - 03/19/20 12:39 AM
Just picked up a 6.8 SPC. Anyone have any recommendations on what power scope to get? I’m a vortex guy so I was wanting to stay in that family.
Is a tactical scope on an AR necessary?
You could just get 3-9 or 1-4, 1-6, 1-8 etc.. Don't need high magnification for a 6.8. My 6.8 AR is just wearing a 3x Prism scope right now.

Yeah you’re probably right. Looking for something for pig hunting. No more than 100 yard shots. Maybe 200 at the very most. I was thinking the Vortex Optics Viper HS 2.5-10×44. Read good things but would like some opinions if anyone has this scope

I put a Bushnell 1-6.5 BTR on my 6.8.
My 6.8 wears a Burris FF E1 3-9x40 with the illuminated reticle, and I like it. For some reason I've also been enamored with this one from Burris:

Thanks. I’ll look into it!

Since you are in that price and power range, I would highly recommend the Trijicon 3-9. I have 3 and they are great. Not a Vortex but Trijicon makes great optics.

the 1-8 is extremely versatile
In my opinion it is a must for a pig hunting AR. a 1 - 6 is OK also but why not get the 8.
Having a 1 magnification for close shots in heavy cover is a good idea when stalking pigs. I hunt on 1 power and only magnify if the pig is 100 yards or more off and I have a shot. But that doesnt happen much in the forest where shots are typically 75 yards or less. For stalking and hunting the forest exclusively a 1x red dot is perfect also.

I use a Leupold Patrol VX-R 3-9x40 with FireDot TMR reticle on one of my 6.8s. I also have a Vortex Viper PST on another one because I had it laying around. The Leupold is a better hunting scope for me.
I was just about to post that.
