Hogster-C Thermal Clip-On: First Time In The Field

Hogster-C Thermal Clip-On: First Time In The Field - 02/15/20 07:56 PM

I got a chance to help out Pig_Popper with the new Hogster-C thermal clip-on optic. He has done a couple preliminary videos that I am sure he will be posting here soon. However, I got to take the new goodies into the field for the first time. So far, I am fairly impressed. The Hogster-C will serve as a thermal clip-on, but can also work as a handheld scanner with the changing of a few parts. I didn't try using it as a scanner as I wanted to see if it would hunt. It will!

This really isn't the greatest setup from which to make videos, but if as a functional thermal, it did a fine job on my initial hunt. Hopefully over the next week, I will get a chance to stretch its legs a bit and shoot at some more distant hogs...

And the range session which preceded your hunt - covers zeroing the day optic and then verifying the groups with the clipon attached.

Nice video, Benji. That's one active range y'all are shooting at eek2

Actually it was a slow day there. I pretty much quit trying to record any video at that range because guys are usually talking about nonsense in addition to shooting on both sides of you.

We were able to use the furthest lane away and get this done.

Man, I freaking hate all those muzzle brakes blasting right next to me. There's no comparison to a private range where you can call cold whenever you want and there's no yuppies with $5000 of PRS gear trying to get on paper at 50 yards. Ya'll should talk to Jason.

That looks pretty interesting... thanks for taking the time to make this.

- Price on the clip-on?
- What DVR are you using?

Thanks

Clip on runs $ 3600 and we are using my backup dVR which is a UNV MDVR

I’ve used a Lumeneer 600 with my Hogster-R and it also produced quality video.

Another hunt with the Bering Optics setup. So far, the only problem has been between me and the DVR switch. The optics are performing as they are supposed to perform. I have had the clip-on off between hunts and put it back on before each hunt and then verified that I was still properly zeroed and each time the zero has been maintained.

I would like to have tried a long distance shot at the coyote in the video, but never got setup and stable in time before it moved out of view. Maybe later....

So this is the UNV DVR isn't it?

My screen is broken, but it still works. I'll pick up one of these.

Hi Charlie,

I find the visual elements of the UNV and Lumenier to be nearly identical.

Both have good audio and similar controls.

The Lumenier buzz feature is a bit more reliable than the UNV MDVR.

The UNV is always in stock and the Lumenier is hard to catch up to at times

I recently picked up one of these units as well. Won't be investing in a DVR any time soon, but should have a first field report by the end of the month. It's very compact and light.

Pig_Popper and I got out for some predator calling last night. This was the result. The Bering Optics Hogster-C continues to perform...
