I am looking for a pair of binos in 10x42. What are your suggestion. Please no $1000 models. Thanks Daniel

I’m not shopping, but will be interested in what folks suggest in that price range. The inexpensive Minox binocs I bought for ATV use (they did break) were repaired or replaced - I can’t tell which - are really sharp. And the Nikon 10x42’s we keep in the house are excellent. The Minox were about $135 and the Nikons about $400.

I’d be inclined to take a serious look at some high end Nikons, if I was shopping.

You really should take a peek at the new Kowa BD II series. They're very sharp, extra bright with crazy wide FOV The 10x42 is a 7.2* angle of view

I have a pair of Hawke ED 10x42 that I used on a pronghorn hunt. They were plenty out to 1000 yards and were under $200. You could pay more but I wouldn't unless you need them for mountain hunting. I like how you said 'not $1000' and several suggestions are barely under.

While I now use Swaro SLC 10s for my general hunting, I do have an older pair of Vortex Viper HD 8s. I kept the Vipers as they served me well. They are a great backup to what I am now running but also get used as loaners (where needed) for friends if I am hunting with them.

If you like those you should check out an Athlon Midas 8x42. Astounding what $250 can buy nowadays. I'd put them up against anything under $500.

I have bought two pair of Vortex Diamond Backs, have not looked into the Viper HD but I'm very happy with the Diamondbacks. Honestly, for me to be able to tell a noticeable difference I have to move into a Zeiss or Swarovski, and then your at a noticeable price upgrade.

I'd check these out - I've gotten with Doug on a couple different optics and he's never steered me wrong.

Another Vortex Diamondback vote here. I've seen them on sale recently at local gun stores and online, not sure if Vortex is coming out with a new model, but they can be had for under $200 if you look.

Your screen name is funny since the very reason for a new set of bino's is so the wife can see the bumps on a button buck and the spikes on this years bucks. She is using a pair of Nikons 8x that are several years old but still in good condition plus they were not the cheapest on the rack and it's hard to see the button bucks at times and much of a distance. She let a deer that she thought was a BB walk Monday.

Sorry, I didn't think it was such a big deal. Doug made a good sales pitch plus he gave the wife a discount (THF). The bino's are for her & the best part is she is paying for them (she is still working). Thanks Daniel

I have some Nikon Prostaff 7s that i keep beating the crap out of and they keep on kicking. I've been pretty happy with them, especially being on the lower price point spectrum.
