Pulsar EPS5 battery pack longevity

Pulsar EPS5 battery pack longevity - 07/05/19 09:20 PM

I've had my EPS5 for about 18 months and probably have used it about 300 hours with my Quantum XD38A handheld monocular. Now when I plug the charger in it stays green and won't take a charge. The charger checks out on the meter. Is this about all I can expect from this rechargeable pack?

I've had mine for 4 years with no issues.

Just call customer service I bet they’ll take care of it.

Mine is doing the same but appear to charge normally and last just as long as usual.

In other words I don’t charge based on the green / red light status of the charger.

I tried leaving it on charger with green light for several hours. Still dead. And monocular works fine with the 4 AA's. Pack is six months out of factory warranty(12 mos.) Probably gonna go with the EPS3 next time just to be able to charge it with the car cig lighter plug.

I'd definitely give Pulsar a call, I've sold a ton of EPS5's and never heard of one completely dying like that, unless there was a short in the cord.

Also the EPS5 was discontinued last year. The only model still being sold is the EPS3i.

Jason,

May give Pulsar a call. Thought I might want the EPS3 but then realized it has a short cord. I usually kept the EPS5 in a pocket which was no problem with the 3 foot cord. My XD38A handheld does have a short rail for the Weaver mount on the EPS3 but don't know if that would work not to mention the added weight. What's up with discontinuing a pack without a long cord? There are still some EPS5's out there. Maybe if I can't get a resolution with Pulsar I should order one before there are no other options. Thanks

I'm not really sure why they discontinued it. I sold equal amounts of both the EPS3i and the EPS5. I would imagine the greatest factor in discontinuing the EPS5 is the fact that the Apex was being discontinued as well, however, they dropped the EPS5 a few months before the Apex. With the Apex gone there isn't a real big need for EPS's anymore. I sold EPS's like crazy for the last couple years but within 30 days of the Apexes all being gone, the EPS sales were completely dead. I won't continue to stock them after the end of this year, there just aren't enough sales to justify it.

Talk to Pulsar, they might have a refurb unit they could replace yours with. I'd at least give them a call and see what they say.

Good luck!

Jason, when I purchased my EPS3 about 4 years back it came with an extension cable in case a user wanted to put it in their pocket or mount it on the stock. Does the current model EPS3i also have that power cable to extend the length?

Great question....I'm not 100% sure? I know the attached cable on the EPS3i is 8.5" long but I just can't remember if there is an extension cable in the box. I've got one out of the box here but all my new ones are in my warehouse, I might have to have my guys go open one up and check and see.

DoubleUp, I believe you are correct! I really didn't remember that cable but looking at Pulsar's listed contents in the box it says "extension cord". That's a very good catch!
