Leupold Scope VX 1 4-12x40 - 05/29/19 05:24 PM

Newbie here,
I am trying to find out the best place/way to sell a scope I have. Nothing is wrong with it. Just does not have the strength I need. Wanting to buy a Vortex Viper scope. Any help on where/how to sell my scope would be greatly appreciated.

You want to sell it here you need to put it in the classifieds section. You probably don't have access to it due to your post count.

Personally I think you might be barking up the wrong tree looking at a vortex if the leupold isn't tuff enough to hold up to it.

I think I'm a long way off from being able to sell on this forum. Vortex or Athlon ???

No experience with Athlon. My vortex has been fine, just don't believe its any tuffer or weaker than the leupold. I have had a VX 1 4-12x40 on my 300 wby for 10 years and its never faltered.

Am I the only one reading this as strength = magnification?

I would either sell it on Ebay, Craigslist or FB market, or you might check with SWFA about their trade-in program. Good luck and welcome to the forum!

LOL could be, much gets lost in type over the internet. I would probably never interpret his question that way from what I read, but it is quite possible that is what he meant.

I have a 4-16 power vortex viper and it may as well be a 12 power. When you crank it up to 16 the clarity it has disappears.

As RC points out, not all 16x are created equal. Questions:

Caliber:
Platform:
MaxDistance:
Usage:
Preferred reticle type:
Budget:

How is the Nikon going to be any better than what I already have in the Leupold 4 -12 x 40

I have a VX-1 on a loaner rifle and it's decent but the Nikon should have better glass and being 16X, obviously more magnification on the top end. Honestly, in the price range you gave there aren't a lot of options with 16-18-20X on the top end and the 14X options didn't seem like much of a step up.

Good luck to you.

I’ve done the vortex thing. Ok for the money...

For 16x magnification Leupold VX2 would be way better than a vortex viper.
I personally like my Burris. It costs a lot more than a Vortex Viper, but it’s a much better, clearer, scope.

That's much less likely to break.
